Section 142 of the Social Security Code, 2020

The Ministry of Labour and Employment, recently notified Section 142 of the Social Security Code, 2020 to authorise the collection of Aadhaar details for the beneficiaries of the different social security schemes.

Section 142 of the Social Security Code, 2020 is associated with the Application of Aadhaar to offer services and benefits to "an employee or unorganised worker or any other person".

Oldest human burial discovered in Kenya

The oldest human burial has been discovered in a cave at a site called “Panga ya Saidi” in Kenya in the African Continent. The burial indicates the remains of a child who was two to three years old at the site which is over 78,000 years old.

First Genetically Engineered mosquitoes released in the USA

The Biotechnology firm ‘Oxitec’ has recently launched the first field test of Genetically Modified mosquitoes in Florida in the U.S.A. The aim of the project is to suppress disease-carrying, wild mosquito populations in the area.

Supreme Court Upholds Indra Sawhney Judgement

In a recent Judgement, the Supreme Court has quashed the Maratha Quota Reservation Law which was formulated on the basis of the recommendations of Justice M.G Gaikwad Commission and upheld the upper limit of 50% set in the Indra Sawhney VS Union of India case.

The Supreme Court has upheld that the power of identification and notification of the list for the Reservation of Socially and Educationally Backward Classes(SEBC) is held by the President (Central Government).

“2021 Global Report on Food Crises”

The “2021 Global Report on Food Crises” report has been released by the Global Network Against Food Crises (GNAFC). The report underscores the acute food insecurity experienced by 155 million people in 2020. Most of the Individuals are from Yemen, South Sudan and Burkina Faso.
