Freedom of Net report 2019

The Freedom of Net report 2019 titled “The Crisis of Social Media” was released by The Freedom House, an international watchdog. This report recorded an overall decline in global internet freedom status between July 2018 and May 2019. India obtained an overall score of 55 and was reported to be “partly free”.

Climate emergency

In a paper that was published in the journal BioScience, around 11,258 signatories out of which 69 are from India declared Global Climate Emergency. They presented climate change trends and methods to mitigate the threat. The report was titled “World Scientists.”

The Ministry of shipping is hosting the first-ever BIMSTEC Ports’ Conclave

The Ministry of shipping is hosting its first-ever BIMSTEC Ports’ Conclave between November 7 and November 8, 2019. The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multisectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is an international organisation which involves South East Asian and South Asian countries. India’s growing interests in the region make the conclave crucial and significant. Also, the conference will be a pathway for India’s maritime security measures and its interests in the Indo-Pacific region.

Bihar State government is to ban all state-owned vehicles that are older than 15 years across the state

Bihar State government is to ban all the state-owned vehicles that are older than 15 years across the state. The proposal aims to combat air pollution. The Andhra Pradesh State cabinet is expected to approve the proposal. The restriction will be extended to commercial vehicles, but only for the Patna metropolitan area, which would make it the first non-metro city to come under such a ban. 

ICAR report on Stubble Burning

The ICAR’s Creams Laboratory bulletin on 4th November 2019, stated that there had been a reduction of 12% in incidents of Stubble Burning as compared to 2018. There were 31,402 burning events in the three states Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana as on October 1, 2019. 

World Customs Organization recognised HS Code for India’s Signature Fabrics

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has allocated separate HS code for signature fabric of India. HS- Harmonized System and was developed by the World Customs Organization (WCO). This code is used by customs officers to clear commodities entering or crossing the international border.

Khadi is the term that is used for fabrics that are hand-spun and handwoven. It is recognised as the signature fabric of India.

Ganga Utsav

Ganga Utsav is celebrated to mark the 11th anniversary of Ganga for getting the tag of national river. This year Ganga Utsav is organised by National Mission for clean ganga along with the Jal Sakthi ministry. This event is celebrated in Delhi for the year 2019 to create awareness about the cleanliness of the River Ganga.
