"Flying For All” Global Aviation Summit to be held in Mumbai

Ministry of Civil Aviation and FICCI is organizing first-ever 2 day Global Aviation Summit (GAS) from 15 to 16 January 2019 in Mumbai.

Theme of the GAS: Flying for all

International Civil Aviation Organisation's (ICAO) prediction of a "100 percent increase in global air travel by 2030", the summit will discuss ways to tap this growth for Indian aviation sector.

Exhibitor of the Year Award for DRDO at 106th Indian Science Congress

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) pavilion received ‘Exhibitor of the Year Award’ at 106th Indian Science Congress held at Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara, Punjab. The pavilion narrated the saga of self-reliance & national pride with the ‘Make in India’ spirit and was a big attraction among people especially students visiting the pavilion and getting opportunity to interact with DRDO scientists.

First Advance Estimates of National Income, 2018-19

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the first advance estimates of National Income for 2018-19.

The Indian economy is expected to grow at 7.2% in the financial year 2018-19 which is higher than the 6.7% GDP growth in the previous financial year 2017-18.

The Real GVA (Gross Value Added) is expected to grow at 7% in the current fiscal as against 6.5 per cent in 2017-18.

Cabinet approves 10% quota for economically backward upper castes

Union Cabinet has approved 10 per cent reservation in direct recruitments and for admission in higher educational institutions for the economically backward section in the general category. 

The reservation benefit is likely to be availed by those whose annual income is below Rs 8 lakh and have up to five acres of Agricultural land. 

The government is likely to bring a constitutional amendment bill in Parliament as the quota will be over and above the existing 50 per cent reservation. 

India takes over operations of Chabahar port in Iran

India has taken over operations of the strategic Chabahar port in the Sistan-Balochistan province of Iran's southern coast. 

This is the first time India will be operating a port outside its territory. 

Airports Authority of India bans single-use plastic items

The Airports Authority of India (AAI), which operates over 90 airports, has declared 16 airports free from single-use plastic.

It has also issued direction to the airport directors to ban plastic and asked them to implement the order as early as possible.

Supreme Court reinstates Alok Verma as CBI Director

The Supreme Court on 08 Jan quashed the government's midnight move to send CBI chief Alok Verma on forced leave.

The Supreme Court reinstated Alok Verma as CBI director but said that he will not be allowed to take any policy decisions.

The Supreme Court said it was quashing the order sending him on leave since the government had no authority to take action against the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation.

World Bank President Jim Yong Kim to step down on February 1

World Bank President Jim Yong Kim has abruptly resigned nearly three years ahead of his retirement in 2022.

Jim Yong will join a private firm after stepping down from his post which will take effect on Feb 1.
