MoU between India and Russia on Coking Coal

India will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Russia to import coking coal to match the Indian steel industry's needs and expand the energy partnership by increasing imports of crude oil from Russia. The government is trying to enter into a long-term contract for the supply of crude oil from Russia to diversify its hydrocarbons sources.

PPE’s by Indian Navy clears INMAS certification

The Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), Delhi tasked with the testing and certification of PPE, has tested the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) designed and produced by the Indian Navy. The PPEs have been certified for mass production and to be used in clinical COVID situations.

MoU signed between Coir Board and IIT-Madras

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Coir Board to set up a “Centre of Excellence (CoE) for the application of Coir exclusively or in combination with other natural fibers.” The premier educational institution had done the verification of the research studies undertaken by the Coir Board and other agencies in India on Coir Geo-Textiles (CGT) earlier.

JNCASR scientists fabricate energy-efficient photodetector for security application

An economical and energy-efficient thin slice-based photodetector of wafer-scale has been fabricated by using gold – silicon interface by the scientists working at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) for security applications. Photodetectors are employed in the detection of light and operating several applications, which range from detecting radiation from the outer galaxy to automatic light control in supermarkets.

Ministry of Tourism launches Dekho Apna Desh Logo Design Contest

The ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ Contest was launched by the Ministry of Tourism on the MyGov platform on 6 May 2020. The logo for ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ based on creative inputs from the citizens of the country will help the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, to develop a Distinct Brand identity for the campaign. The individual who wins the DekhoApnaDesh Logo contest will receive six days, five nights all paid expenses holiday package for two people to any destination across India from their place of stay in India.

New currency introduced by the Parliament of Iran to combat inflation

Iran has changed its national currency from ‘Rial’ to ‘Toman.’ The change has been brought by amending the Monetary and Banking Act of Iran on 4 May 2020. The amendment makes the existing currency of Iran’ Rial’ valid in addition to the ‘Toman’ for 2 years. The new currency is equivalent to 10,000 rials and saw the reduction of four zeros.

World Athletics Day observed on 7 May

The International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAI) organizes the World Athletics Day on 7 May every year. The day was first celebrated in the year 1996 and was started by the then President of IAAF Primo Nebiolo. The day is utilized as a platform to raise awareness about sports and encourage the youth to take up sports as a career.

Term of Dia Mirza as the Goodwill Ambassador of UNEP of India extended

The term of Dia Mirza as the Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) of India has been extended until the end of 2022. Dia Mirza is also an advocate of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Dia Mirza launched the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution in her first tenure as the ambassador.

Minister Health & Family Welfare launches the ‘AYUSH Sanjivani ’ App

The ‘AYUSH Sanjivani’ App and 2 AYUSH based studies related to COVID-19 situation were launched by the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan on 7 May 2020. The ‘AYUSH Sanjivani ’ mobile application will help in generating data on the acceptance and use of AYUSH and how it has helped the population to prevent COVID 19 infection.
