RUSSIAN TROOPS ON UKRAINE BORDER

According to the news published in the Indian Express on 7 Dec 2021, a tense situation on the Russia-Ukraine border represents a major regional security crisis. Ukraine says Russia has deployed about 90,000 troops across the border, and US intelligence reports say a Russian invasion of Ukraine is likely early next month.

COMET A1 LEONARD

A comet is expected to fly past Earth by December 12 during its orbit around our solar system. The comet, named after Leonard after the astronomer Gregory Leonard, who discovered it earlier this year, is likely to shine when it approaches Earth on December 12.

RAIGAD FORT

President Ram Nath Kovind begins his four-day visit (December 6-9) to Maharashtra to Raigad Fort, where he will pay tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Raigad Fort is a hill fort located 25 kilometres from Mahad in the Raigad region and stands 2,851 feet above sea level.

USA BOYCOTTS BEIJING WINTER OLYMPICS 2022

According to the news published in NDTV newspaper on 07 Dec 2021, the US Government has announced the boycott of Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. The Olympics 2022 will be held in Beijing. The US cited that "China's human rights ATROCITIES" is the main reason for its boycott. The US has named the boycott "Diplomatic Boycott".

MAITRI DIWAS: 6 DECEMBER 2021

On December 6, Maitri Diwas was celebrated in 2021 to mark the day on which India recognized newly-formed Bangladesh in 1971. On December 6, 1971, India was one of the first countries to form bilateral diplomatic ties with Bangladesh.

AIR SUVIDHA PORTAL

According to the news published in PIB on December 7, 2021, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare have mandated contactless self-declaration at Air Suvidha Portal to ensure the smooth running of international travellers arriving in India.

PANEX-21

On 07 Dec 2021, a curtain-raiser event, PANEX-21, for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief exercise, for the member nations of BIMSTEC countries, was held at Kothari Auditorium DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi. Italy is not a part of BIMSTEC countries. The exercise is planned to be held from 20-22 Dec 21 at Pune.

BIMSTEC member states are Myanmar, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. These are the countries that rely on the Bay of Bengal.

NAI MANZIL SCHEME

According to the news published in ANI News on 08 Dec 2021, 6,57,802 minorities received skill development training under the scheme as of December 2021. The Nai Manzil Scheme falls under the purview of the Ministry of Minority Affairs. It was launched in 2015.
