QS WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS 2022

London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released the QS World University Rankings 2022. IIT-Bombay is ranked as the best University in India with a rank of 177. It is followed by IIT-Delhi (185) and IISc (I86).

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has also been adjudged as “world’s top research university.

7TH NATIONAL PARK FOR ASSAM

Assam Government declared Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary as the 7th National Park of the state. Dehing Patkai National Park is located in the Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts of Assam.

‘SURAKSHIT HUM SURAKSHIT TUM ABHIYAN’ LAUNCHED

NITI Aayog and Piramal Foundation launched ‘Surakshit Hum Surakshit Tum Abhiyan’ in 112 aspirational districts. Under this, local leaders, civil societies and volunteers will work with the district administrations to address emerging issues across key focus areas of the Aspirational Districts Programme.

INDIA-THAILAND COORDINATED PATROL COMMENCED

31st edition of the India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) commenced. It is the first of a biannual exercise.

GLOBAL LIVEABILITY INDEX 2021

Global Liveability Ranking is an annual assessment published by the London–based Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). Auckland has been ranked the best on liveability rankings due to the ability of New Zealand city to contain Covid-19. Japanese cities of Osaka and Tokyo grabbed second and fourth place on EIU’s Global Liveability Index 2021.

FIRST COUNTRY TO ADOPT BITCOIN AS LEGAL TENDER

El Salvador has become the first country in the world to grant legal tender status to bitcoin. 

Cryptocurrency is a digital currency that permits transacting parties to remain anonymous while confirming the transaction is valid.

WORLD BANK PROJECTS INDIA TO GROW AT 8.3 PER CENT

Recently, the World Bank has released its June 2021 Global Economic Prospects where it has forecast India’s GDP growth to be 8.3% for the year 2021-22. India's economy is expected to grow at 8.3% for Fiscal Year 2021-22, 7.5% for 2022-23 and 6.5% for 2023-24.

The world economy is expected to expand 5.6%, the fastest post-recession growth rate in eighty years.
