NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DAY OBSERVED

Every year, National Technology Day is celebrated  on May 11. The National Technology Day 2021 theme is “Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future”.

1ST INDIAN TO WIN ARAB WORLD NOBEL PRIZE

Dr Tahera Qutbuddin became the first person of Indian-origin to win the 15th Sheikh Zayed Book Award. The Sheikh Zayed Book Award is considered to be the Nobel Prize of the Arab world. It is a literary award begun in the UAE. She was awarded for her latest book, “Arabic Oration – Art and Function” published by Brill Academic Publishers of Leiden in 2019.

‘DOST FOR LIFE’ MOBILE APP LAUNCHED

Recently, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched a psychological counselling app for students and parents. The mobile app named ‘Dost for Life’ can be accessed by students and parents. It has been designed for students of classes 9 to 12 and parents and can be used for counselling sessions.

GOPAL KRISHNA GOKHALE JAYANTI OBSERVED

Recently, 155th birth anniversary of Gopal Krishna Gokhale on 9th May. Gopal Krishna Gokhale was born on May 9, 1866, in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. He was one of the founding leaders of the Indian national movement.

SPACEX TO LAUNCH ‘DOGE-1 MISSION TO THE MOON’

SpaceX to launch a satellite to the Moon funded with the cryptocurrency Dogecoin. It is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2022. It will demonstrate the application of cryptocurrency beyond Earth orbit and set the foundation for interplanetary commerce.

ISRO DEVELOPS 3 COST-EFFECTIVE VENTILATORS, OXYGEN CONCENTRATOR

Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), has developed three different types of ventilators and an oxygen concentrator. Based on designs, features and specifications, ISRO has named them, Prana, VaU and Svasta.

PUDUCHERRY BECOMES ‘HAR GHAR JAL’ UT

Puducherry became the second ‘Har Ghar Jal’ Union Territory (U.T.). It aims to  provide a household tap connection in every rural home. The U.T. has become the fourth State/UT after Goa, Telangana and Andaman & Nicobar Islands to ensure tap water connection and supply under the flagship ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ scheme of the Union Government.
