First Chinook heavy lift helicopter arrives in India

The first batch of heavy-lift Chinook helicopters arrived at Gujarat’s Mundra Port from the US on 10 Feb 2019.

The four Boeing CH-47F (I) Chinooks, part of a 15-helicopter order placed by India in 2016.

It will be assembled and flown to their home base in Chandigarh where they will be formally inducted in the Indian Air Force (IAF) later this year.

Egypt president Elect Sisi elected Chairman of African Union

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has been elected chairman of the African Union at the continental body’s summit in Ethiopia on 10 Feb 2019.

El-Sisi's election brought to an end the one-year chairmanship of Rwanda's President Paul Kagame.

On the other hand, Amnesty International has warned that El-Sisi’s election as a chairman will undermine the human rights condition in Africa.

Corentin Moutet wins Chennai Open ATP Challenger title

In Tennis, France’s Corentin Moutet has clinched the Chennai Open ATP Challenger tournament title after beating Andrew Harris of Australia 6-3, 6-3 in the singles final.

Railways lift Senior Men's National Hockey title

Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) defeated the defending champion Punjab by 3-2 and lifted the ninth Senior National Men’s Hockey Championship crown in Gwalior on 10 Feb 2019.

Harshabib Singh scored 2 goals and the winning goal came from Dilpreet Singh for the RPSB.

Hindi included as third official court language in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi (Capital of UAE) has decided to include Hindi as the third official language used in its courts, alongside Arabic and English, as part of a move designed to improve access to justice. 

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has extended the adoption of interactive forms of statement of claims filed before courts by including Hindi. 

Cancer drug to destroy tumours from inside shows promising results

Researchers from the Institute of Cancer Research in the UK have discovered a new innovative drug called tisotumab vedotin (TV).

The results of this study were published in The Lancet Oncology.

Prime Minister inaugurates PETROTECH 2019

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 11 Feb 2019 inaugurated the 13th International Oil and Gas Conference - PETROTECH-2019 in Greater Noida. 

This event mainly focuses on the development of Petroleum products and related technologies.

Prime Minister launches Swachh Shakti 2019

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil several development projects during his visit to Kurukshetra on 12 Feb where he will be participating in Swachh Shakti- 2019 programme.

In Kurukshetra, he will distribute the Swachh Shakti-2019 awards, and will also visit the Swachh Sundar Shauchalay exhibition at Kurukshetra.

National Productivity Week being observed

The National Productivity Day is observed every year in India on February 12.

Besides, February 12-18 is observed as National Productivity week.

John Morris Ajax Fire Engine bags “Statesman Challenger” trophy

In the Statesman 53rd Edition Vintage Car Rally, Indian Railway’s John Morris Ajax Fired Engine built in 1914 won the Statesman Challenger Trophy 2019.

This fire engine is regularly bagging the trophies across various categories every year. National Rail Museum is participating in this rally since 1981.

In a first, Maersk Line moves on R. Ganga from Varanasi to Kolkata

The world’s largest container shipping company Maersk Line on 12 Feb will move 16 containers on the Ganga river from Varanasi to Kolkata.

On November 12, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated India’s first riverine multimodal terminal on river Ganga (National Waterway-1) at Varanasi to the nation.

India, Norway launch initiative to combat Marine Pollution

In order to fight the marine pollution, India signed a letter of intent with the Norwegian government establishing the India-Norway Marine Pollution Initiative.

The letter was signed by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) establishing the initiative with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dera Baba Nanak land check post designated as immigration centre

Indian government on 11 Feb designated Dera Baba Nanak land Check post in Gurdaspur district of Punjab as an authorised immigration checkpoint to exit and entry for visiting Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan.
