DAUGHTERS HAVE EQUAL RIGHT TO INHERIT PROPERTY, SAYS SC

On 11th August, The Supreme Court held that daughters have equal birthright to inherit joint Hindu family property. As per this Act, it gives daughters equal rights to ancestral property. A bench of Justices Arun Mishra, S Abdul Nazeer and MR Shah authored the judgement, where it specifies that whether the father is alive or not, daughters born before September 9, 2005, too can claim equal right in inheritance.

APPROVAL FOR THE PROCUREMENT OF EQUIPMENT AND PLATFORMS WORTH Rs 8,722.38 crore GIVEN BY DAC

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, has given approval for the capital acquisitions of various platforms and equipment worth Rs 8,722.38 crore. The DAC has approved the procurement of 106 Basic Trainer Aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to resolve the requirements of basic training of the Indian Air Force (IAF).

MINISTRY OF TRIBAL AFFAIRS HAS LAUNCHED “EMPOWERING TRIBALS, TRANSFORMING INDIA” DASHBOARD

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has launched the “Empowering Tribals, Transforming India” online performance dashboard on 10 August 2020. The Online Performance Dashboard is a dynamic and interactive virtual platform that displays real-time and updated details of 11 schemes for achieving these SDGs under the Ministry.

MORTH ALLOWS SALE AND REGISTRATION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES WITHOUT BATTERIES

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways notified an addition to the existing electric vehicle policy. According to which it will now allow the sale and registration of electric vehicles without a pre-fitted battery. As per the notification, the prototype vehicle will still require a road-worthiness approval from anointed test agencies, as per Rule 126 of the Central Motor Vehicle Act Rules of 1989.

ISRAEL AI-BASED TECHNOLOGIES TO HELP TACKLE COVID-19

As a part of Israel-India cooperation to fight the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, AIIMS, Delhi had treated around 5,500 patients till now. It has now received state-of-the-art AI-based technologies and high-end equipment from the Embassy of Israel. The technology includes an AI video-oriented, voice-operated autonomous personal AI assistant robot, an app.

COLLAPSE OF CANADA’S MILNE SHELF

Coming as the latest warning to the rapid climate change and rise in  temperature in recent times, the Milne shelf has collapsed into the Arctic last week, losing nearly half of the total area. The milne shelf is at the  northern tip of the former Ellesmere Ice shelf, located in the Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, Canada on the north-west coast of Ellesmere Island. It is the second longest Ice shell in the Arctic Ocean.
