Renewable Energy Ministry formulates KUSUM Scheme

Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is formulating a Scheme ‘Kisan Urja Suraksha and Utthaan Mahabhiyan (KUSUM)’ which inter-alia aims to promote use of solar energy among the farmers.

Salient Features of the scheme

1.      Setting up of grid-connected renewable power plants each of 500KW to 2 MW in the rural area.

2.      Installation of standalone off-grid solar water pumps to fulfil irrigation needs of farmers not connected to grid.

111 Naval Utility Helicopters (NUH) for Indian Navy issued

Indian Navy's modernization gets the biggest boost as Ministry of Defence has finally issued Expression of Interest for the 111 Naval Utility Helicopters (NUH), mandating the bulk of manufacturing in India.

These helicopters will replace Chetak Helicopters.

"India – Spearheading Climate Solutions” publication issued

Union Minister of Environment Harsh Vardhan on 12 Feb released a publication on climate action titled 'India - Spearheading Climate Solutions' which mentions the key actions India has taken under various sectors towards combating and adapting to climate change.

1st Aqua Mega Food Park in Andhra Pradesh commissioned

The Godavari Mega Aqua Food Park, situated in Tundurru village in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh was commissioned on 12 Feb 2019.

This is the 1st Mega Aqua Food Park operationalised exclusively established for fish and marine products processing in the State of Andhra Pradesh.

It has been set up in 57.81 acre of land at a cost of Rs. 122.60 crores.       

Fifth International Dam Safety Conference at Bhubaneswar

The 5th International Dam Safety Conference–2019 was held on 13-14 February 2019 in Bhubaneswar as a joint initiative of the Government of India, Government of Odisha and the World Bank.

Dam Safety Conferences are being organized as an annual event in different DRIP States in collaboration with the Implementing Agencies and leading academic institutes to provide a common platform for all stakeholders including non-DRIP States.

Humans vs Machines shake-up to generate over 133M new jobs by 2022

According to World Economic Forum (WEF); Machines will overtake humans in terms of performing more tasks at the workplace by 2025. However, 58 million new jobs will also be created.

WEF presented its finding in the report titled The Future of Jobs.

RBI penalises banks for violating various norms

Reserve Bank has imposed monetary penalty of two million rupees each on HDFC Bank, IDBI Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank for non-compliance of various Know Your Customer/ Anti-Money Laundering norms.
