Tool for Banks to determine TDS applicability rates on cash withdrawals launched by IT Department

A new tool has been launched by the Income Tax Department for facilitating the Banks and Post Offices in determining the rates of Tax Deduction at Source(TDS) on withdrawals of cash. Under the new functionality, the rates of TDS is applicable, if the withdrawal of cash is more than Rs.20 lakh for a non-filer of the income-tax return, whereas for a filer of the income-tax return the amount is Rs.1 crore.

'Roko -Toko' campaign by Madhya Pradesh government for those not wearing masks

The government of Madhya Pradesh will start the Roko -Toko campaign which stands for ‘stop and remind’ for reminding people who do not wear masks as the use of masks has been made compulsory by the government.

WWF warns about increase in demand of rare animals due to Commercial farming of endangered species in Myanmar

The environmental conservation group, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Fauna and Flora International (FFI) have issued warnings that the modifications made under the Myanmar law that allows for the commercial farming of endangered animals will increase the demand for rare animals around the globe. The list for commercial farming of wildlife animals include Ayeyarwaddy Dolphin, Pangolin, Siamese crocodile and Tiger and are among the endangered species of the world.

The country is also the centre for illegal trade, and the demand for wildlife in Myanmar arises from China.

Molecular probes used in COVID-19 test kits launched by VNIR Biotechnologies

VNIR Biotechnologies Private Limited, a subsidiary of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), an autonomous institute functioning under the Department of Science & Technology, has launched indigenous Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) mix and fluorescence probes for the detection of Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) that are molecular probes employed in COVID-19 test kits. The company has been incubated at the Bangalore Bio-innovation Centre (BBC) of the Government of Karnataka.

Special Parcel Train loaded by Indian Railways to Bangladesh for the first time

A special Parcel train has been loaded by the Indian Railways to be transported to Benapole in Bangladesh for the first time. The train will carry Dry Chillies from Reddy Palem in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh state. The district of Guntur and areas surrounding it are well known for the cultivation of chillies. 

Nanoparticles formulated by INST scientists to reduce severity of rheumatoid arthritis

A nanoparticle has been formulated by the researcher’s working at the Institute of Nano Science & Technology (INST), Mohali, an autonomous institute functioning under the Department of Science and Technology Government of India for reducing the severity of rheumatoid arthritis.

Second Voluntary National Review presented by NITI Aayog at UN

The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog has presented the second Voluntary National Review (VNR) at the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) of the United Nations on Sustainable Development, 2020. The forum is the leading platform for the review and follow up of the progress achieved on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Delivery of 37 military helicopters to India completed by Boeing

The United States aerospace major Boeing has successfully completed the delivery of the final five of the 22 Apache attack helicopters to the Indian Air Force in June 2020 amid the tense border standoff with China. Boeing has also delivered 15 Chinook military helicopters to the Indian Air Force.
