HEATWAVE OCCURRENCES INCREASES IN INDIA

A recent analysis by the Mahamana Center of Excellence in Climate Change Research (MCECCR) at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Earth Sciences, has found a spatial shift of heatwaves in India, with this weather event now occurring in new regions in the country.

VISION PLAN: 2021-2031 RELEASED BY MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, FOREST, AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Recently, the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change released the “Vision Plan: 2021-2031” for Indian zoos. The program was released during a two-day National Conference of zoo directors and veterinarians in Gujarat. It was organized by the Central Zoo Authority and hosted by Sardar Patel Zoological Park, Kevadia in Gujarat.

INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND RETAINS INDIA GDP GROWTH PROJECTION FOR 2021-22 AT 9.5%

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) in its latest World Economic Outlook report released on 12th Oct 2021 revealed that the Indian economy will grow by 8.5% in FY23. IMF growth estimates are in line with the Reserve Bank of India's GDP growth target of 9.5% as an independent agency.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY: OCTOBER 11

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has declared October 11 as“Indigenous Peoples’ Day”. He became the first U.S. president to officially adopt this day.

On October 12, 2021, NITI Aayog Deputy Chairman, Rajiv Kumar, launched the booklet “NITI Aayog - United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Handbook on Sustainable Urban Plastic Waste Management”.

QUARTERLY EMPLOYMENT SURVEY (QES) FOR THE FIRST QUARTER (FQ) OF 2021 (APRIL TO JUNE)

Recently, the Labour Bureau, Ministry of Labour and Employment released the results of the Quarterly Employment Survey (QES) for the First Quarter (FQ) of 2021 (April to June). It shows a 29% increase in employment in 9 sectors during the peak Covid-19 months of April-June 2021 over a base of 2013-14 (Sixth Economic Census - EC).

ADANI GROUP TAKES OVER MANAGEMENT OF JAIPUR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

On October 11, 2021, Adani Group took over the responsibilities of the Jaipur International Airport. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has leased the airport to Adani Group for a period of 50 years.

The Central Government has granted the status of "Maharatna" to the Power Finance Corporation (PFC). This improved scenario will empower PFC, to make a good investment, to creating joint financial ventures and wholly-owned subsidiaries.
