U.S. ANNOUNCES EXEMPTIONS IN H-1B, L-1 TRAVEL BAN

The new relaxations will allow H-1B and L-1 visa holders to go back to the US for continued employment with the same employer. The US State Department has decided to allow certain categories of workers and non-immigrant visa holders in “national interest”. Workers, who are not covered by the presidential proclamation of June 22, neither they nor their spouse or children will be barred from obtaining a visa to travel to the US.

WHAT ARE CONFUCIUS INSTITUTES, AND WHY ARE THEY UNDER THE SCANNER IN INDIA?

India’s Ministry of Education sent a letter to several institutions seeking information about the activities of their Confucius Institutes (CIs) and Chinese language training centres. India wants to reviewing the presence of CIs in seven universities, with 54 MoUs on inter-school cooperation involving China, which is not connected to the CI programme.

Confucius Institute is derived its name from the renowned Chinese educator and philosopher Confucius. They are non-profit institutions affiliated with China's Ministry of Education. Its mission is to promote Chinese language and culture at schools and universities.

INDIAN COAST GUARD OFFSHORE PATROL VESSEL 'SARTHAK' LAUNCHED

Recently an Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) for the Indian Coast Guard was launched and re-christened as Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Sarthak’. It is the 4th in the series of five OPVs. It has been designed & built indigenously by M/s Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL).

DECCAN GYMKHANA CLUB CELEBRATES CENTENARY OF INDIA'S PARTICIPATION IN OLYMPICS

Recently Deccan Gymkhana Club celebrated the centenary of India's participation in the Olympics. In 1919, a meeting was held at Pune's Deccan Gymkhana Club under the leadership of Dorabjee Tata, who expressed his wish to send the Indian team to the Olympics.

SPORTS MINISTER KIREN RIJIJU LAUNCHES THE FIT INDIA FREEDOM RUN

Sports Ministry to organise the largest country-wide run, the Fit India Freedom. It will be launched by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports  Shri Kiren Rijiju on August 14. It is targeted to encourage fitness among the masses while following Covid-19 protocols. It is being organised to mark the 74th Independence Day of India on August 15 to 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2. 

INDIA ANNOUNCES $500 MN PACKAGE FOR THE MALDIVES

India will be supporting the Greater Male Connectivity project (GMCP in the Maldives). India has announced a financial package of USD 400 million and a grant of USD 100 million. It will consist of a number of bridges and causeways which will connect Male to Villingili, Thilafushi and Gulhifahu islands.
