India, ADB sign a $60 Million Loan Agreement to reduce floods in Assam

Assam faces the wrath of mighty Brahmaputra every monsoon due to incessant rain increasing the volume and flow of river leading to flood in Assam. To reduce floods and the riverbank erosion in Assam, India and Asian Development Bank (ADB) on December 13, 2018 signed a $60 million loan agreement.

BP Singh appointed new President of FTII Society

The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India on December 13, 2018 appointed Brijendra Pal Singh as the President of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) society and the chairman of Governing Council of the institute.

India, Saudi Arabia sign Bilateral Annual Haj 2019 Agreement

India and Saudi Arabia on December 13, 2018 signed the 2019 Bilateral Annual Haj Agreement in Jeddah. Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Saudi Arabia's Haj and Umrah Minister Mohammad Saleh bin Taher Benten were present during the signing of agreement.

Sweden moves to ban outdoor smoking

Sweden on December 12, 2018 voted 142-120 to ban outdoor smoking in certain public places, including playgrounds and train station platforms. According to the new law, the goal is to make the Scandinavian country smoke-free by 2025.

Global debt hits all-time high of USD 184 trillion: IMF

In its latest update released on December 13, 2018, the IMF said the global debt has reached an all-time high of USD 184 trillion, with three countries — the United States, China and Japan — accounting for more than half of it. Earlier this year, the IMF had calculated the global debt to be around USD 182 trillion.
