Base Year for Consumer Price Index changed

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has revised the Base Year of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 2010=100 to 2012=100 with effect from the release of indices for the month of January 2015.

The CPI (Rural, Urban, Combined) on Base 2012=100 is being released for the month of February 2019.

In addition to this, Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) for all India Rural, Urban and Combined are also being released for February 2019.

World Kidney Day: 14 March

World Kidney Day (WKD) is a global awareness campaign of letting people knows the importance of their kidneys with an aim to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney diseases.

It is observed on the 2nd Thursday of March every year.

WKD began as joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Foundation but now it has expanded to involve many renal societies, NGO’s, celebrities, governments as well as a common man.

ASTROSAT observed new population of Ultraviolet Stars in the Globular Cluster NGC 2808

Astronomers from Thiruvananthapuram and Mumbai have identified a new population of ultraviolet stars in the globular cluster NGC 2808 using the Indian multi-wavelength space observatory AstroSat, launched in September 2015.

India has the 11th largest gold reserve: World Gold Council Report

World Gold Council (WGC) has released a report on gold holdings of various countries.

India, which is the world’s largest consumer of gold, has the 11th largest gold reserve, with the current holding pegged at 607 tonnes.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) is third on the list with total gold reserves of 2,814 tonnes.

GoDaddy becomes official sponsor of ICC World Cup 2019

GoDaddy Inc., the company that manages internet names and registrations, on 13 Jan 2019 announced that it had signed a partnership with the International Cricket Council (ICC) as official sponsor of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.

Arecanut gets its first GI tag for ‘Sirsi Supari

For the first time in the arecanut sector, ‘Sirsi Supari’ grown in Uttara Kannada of Karnataka has received the Geographic Indication (GI) tag.

Sirsi Supari

It is cultivated in Yellapura, Siddapura and Sirsi taluks.

Totgars’ Cooperative Sale Society Ltd., Sirsi, is the registered proprietor of the GI.
