SILICOSIS IN INDIA

In India, many workers in the mines, construction, and industry die silently from exposure to dust. This is better-called silicosis.

Silicosis can be defined as an occupational disease or accident due to dust exposure. It is incurable and can cause permanent disability. It is a progressive lung disease caused by prolonged inhaling silk, which is characterized by shortness of breath, cough, fever and blue skin. Silicosis occurs mainly in people working in the quarrying, manufacturing and construction industries.

WORLD ECONOMIC OUTLOOK LAUNCHED BY IMF

On October 12, 2021, International Monetary Fund (IMF) launched World Economic Outlook. The global economy is projected to grow 5.9% in 2021 and 4.9% in 2022, 0.1% point lower for 2021 than in the July forecast.

GATI SHAKTI SCHEME LAUNCHED

Recently, the Indian government introduced the outstanding Gati Shakti program or the National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity plan. It is launched with the aim of planning and implementing infrastructure projects to reduce administrative costs.

28TH ANNIVERSARY OF NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION: OCTOBER 12

On 12 October 2021, the 28th anniversary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) was celebrated. It is a human rights watchdog in the country, which means rights related to health, freedom, equality and dignity of a person guaranteed by the Indian Constitution or contained in international treaties and enforced by Indian courts.

INDIA RETAINS 3RD RANK IN RECAI RELEASED BY EY

India has retained the 3rd rank in the Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index (RECAI) released by consultancy firm Ernst & Young (EY).

DRAFT REGIONAL PLAN 2041 APPROVED BY NCRPB

Recently, the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) approved the 'Draft Regional Plan 2041' according to which the National Capital Region (NCR) has reduced its size. A detailed draft plan will soon be available for public suggestions and objections and thereafter, it will be notified by the NCR Planning Board.

GOI INTRODUCES NEW RULES FOR ALLOWING ABORTION TILL 24 WEEKS

The government has introduced new rules under the “Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Act, 2021, which was passed in March 2021. Under the new rules, the gestational limit for termination of pregnancy has increased from 20 weeks to 24 weeks for exceptional categories of women in India.

Women for whom the limit has been increased comprise of minors; survivors of sexual assault, rape or incest; those having physical disabilities and those whose marital status changes during pregnancy that is in case of widowhood or divorce.
