INDO-OMAN Joint Ex Al Nagah 2019

A joint military exercise between India and Royal Army of Oman AL Nagah commenced on 13 March 2019 at Jabel regiment headquarters, Nizwa (Oman).

A 60-member strong Indian Army contingent, based in northern command headquarters at Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir, is taking part in the military exercise 'Al-Nagah III'.

President of India presents Gallantry Awards

President Ram Nath Kovind on 14 March 2019 conferred 3 Kirti Chakras and 15 Shaurya Chakras to Armed Forces Personnel for displaying conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and extreme devotion to duty.

Mr Kovind conferred the Gallantry Awards and Distinguished Service Decorations at the Defence Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. 

Indo-Bangladesh joint Military Exercise Sampriti – 2019 ends

As part of the ongoing India Bangladesh defence cooperation, a joint military exercise Sampriti-2019 was conducted at Tangail, Bangladesh from 02 March to 15 March 2019.  

The eighth edition of Exercise Sampriti, commenced at the Bongobondhu Cantonment, Tangail Bangladesh with an impressive opening ceremony on 03 March 2019. 

Twin Success for Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile

Indian defence scientists have scored a twin success in demonstrating the effectiveness of the Man Portable Anti-tank Guided Missile (MPATGM).

Both these weapons, developed indigenously by scientists of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), were tested in the deserts of Pokhran in Rajasthan.

First Workshop on India Energy Modelling Forum Held

The NITI Aayog and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) organized the first workshop on development of the India Energy Modelling Forum (IEMF), which has been envisaged as a pan-stakeholder platform for debating ideas, scenario-planning & discussing the India's energy future.

The two-day workshop, being held with the support of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), was organized under the Sustainable Growth Pillar of the India-U.S. Strategic Energy Partnership.

Global Environment Outlook Report

Global Environment Outlook report has been released by United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). The report is the sixth and is the UN’s most comprehensive report on the state of the global environment since the fifth edition in 2012.

UK Issues New Black Hole Coin in Honour of Stephen Hawking

The UK’s Royal Mint on 12 March 2019 unveiled a new commemorative 50 pence coin inspired by the late legendary British physicist Stephen Hawking’s seminal work on black holes.

The coin, on sale in silver and gold forms for a price range between 55 and 795 pounds on the Royal Mint’s website, is a nod to Hawking’s research into black holes and his ability to make science accessible for all.

Project Varshadhare launched by Karnataka Government

The Karnataka government has launched the Varshadhare project to conduct cloud seeding.

On March 8, the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department pushed a tender call for cloud seeding operations to enhance rainfall during the monsoons of 2019 and 2020.

The project is expected to cost ₹50 crore each year.

GA of the day: Yemen War

The conflict has its roots in the failure of a political transition supposed to bring stability to Yemen following an Arab Spring uprising that forced its long-time authoritarian president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, to hand over power to his deputy, Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi, in 2011.

As president, Mr Hadi struggled to deal with a variety of problems, including attacks by jihadists, a separatist movement in the south, and the continuing loyalty of security personnel to Saleh, as well as corruption, unemployment and food insecurity.
