ENHANCED POWERS OF BSF

The Ministry of Home Affairs has enhanced the powers of the Border Security Force (BSF). BSF officers could conduct searches and arrests in the states of Punjab, West Bengal and Assam. In the mentioned states, the BSF will have the right to search and arrest just like state police. They also have the power to search and arrest Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Ladakh.

MyParkings APP LAUNCHED

Recently, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur unveiled the MyParkings app in New Delhi. This application has been developed by Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) and South Delhi Municipal Corporation for the purpose of digitizing all licensed parking within the SDMC municipal boundaries.

INDIA RANKS AT 101 IN THE GLOBAL HUNGER INDEX 2021

Of 116 countries, India’s rank is 101st in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2021. India has slipped down from its 2020 position of 94th and is behind its neighbours Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

CLIMATE RESILIENCE INFORMATION SYSTEM AND PLANNING (CRISP-M) LAUNCHED

Union Minister of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Giriraj Singh, introduced the "Climate Resilience Information System and Planning (CRISP-M)" via a virtual event. The CRISP-M tool has been developed with the aim of integrating weather information into “Geographic Information System (GIS) based watershed planning” under MGNREGA.

MILITARY EXERCISE “EX YUDH ABHYAS 2021”

The 17th edition of the Joint Military Training Exercise “Ex Yudh Abhyas 2021” between the Indian Army and the United States Army, is scheduled to take place from October 15 to 29, 2021 at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, Alaska in the USA.

NORTHERN IRELAND PROTOCOL: EXPLAINED

The Northern Ireland Protocol is designed to prevent cross-border checks between Northern Ireland (US) and the Republic of Ireland (EU), following Brexit. It came into effect in early 2021. This protocol means, to keep the global border open and to avoid establishing new infrastructures such as cameras and border posts. 

It has sparked tensions between the UK and the EU as it has disrupted trade between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM (BESS) PROJECT APPROVED BY GOI

Central Government has given its approval for the installation of the 1000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. This pilot project is the joint effort of “Ministry of Power” and “Ministry of New & Renewable energy”. The BESS will be set up to support the ultimate goal of achieving the 450 GW renewable energy goal by the Ministry of New & renewable energy by 2030.

BIS CELEBRATES WORLD STANDARDS DAY ON 14TH OCTOBER

On the occasion of World Standards Day on 14th October 2021, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organized a day-long event on the theme of ‘Shared Vision for a Better World’ Standards for Sustainable Development Goals at its headquarters in New Delhi.
