UN appoints Chandramouli Ramanathan as ASG in Management Strategy dept

The United Nations (UN) appointed Chandramouli Ramanathan as Controller, Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) for Programme Planning, Budget and Finance in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance. He succeeds Bettina Tucci Bartsiotas of Uruguay.

India withdraws Most Favoured Nation status for Pakistan

Indian government on February 15, 2019 announced to withdraw the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status accorded to Pakistan. The decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi headed Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) came a day after the dastardly terrorist attack on CRPF convoy in Pulwama killing more than 40 jawans.

CBDT Appoints Shri Pramod Chandra Mody as Chairman

Senior IRS officer Pramod Chandra Mody was on February 15, 2019 appointed as the chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). Mody, a 1982 batch Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax cadre), has been appointed in place of Sushil Chandra, who was named Election Commissioner.

MCCIA and GIZ Information and Innovation Cell inaugurated in Pune

Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) - Information and Innovation Facilitation Cell (IIFC) was inaugurated on February 15, 2019. The IIFC was inaugurated in Pune under the ambit of Indo-German MSME Innovation Project.

UN, partners appeal for $920 million to meet dire needs of 900,000 Rohingyas

The United Nations aid agencies and partners have appealed for $920 million to help meet the “dire needs” of more than 900,000 Rohingyas who have fled to Bangladesh. The 2019 Joint Response Plan for the Rohingya humanitarian crisis seeks to raise $ 920 million to assist more than 900,000 refugees from Myanmar and the more than 330,000 vulnerable Bangladeshis hosting them.
