Global Risks Report, 2020

On 15th January 2020 the World Economic Forum’s ‘Global Risks Report 2020’ was released. This notes that for the first time in the report’s 10-year-history all of the top five issues that are likely to impact the world this year are environmental. The top 5 global risks considering likelihood are climate action failure, extreme weather conditions, natural disasters, biodiversity loss and human-made natural disasters.

First digital exhibition on Indian Heritage

Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, the Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism,launched a month long special exhibition titled Indian Heritage in Digital Space and a two day long first international heritage symposium today in New Delhi. The exhibition was organized in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

Fuel conservation campaign

‘Saksham’ is an annual one-month long, people-centric fuel conservation mega campaign of Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) which is going to be launched on 16th January by Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel Shri Dharmendra Pradhan in a function to be held in Delhi.

The WHO releases list of Global Health Challenges of the forthcoming year

The World Health Organization-WHO recently released a list of 13 urgent health challenges which the world is going to face over the next decade. This highlights a range of issues, including climate change and health care equity.  This report states that around 7 million people are affected because of climate change. The other threats that have topped the list include influenza epidemic and spread of infectious diseases such as HIV, malaria and tuberculosis.

Non-Profit Organization Pratham released its annual report, Annual Status of Education Report, 2019

Pratham, a well-known Non-Profit Organization, has released the Annual Status of Education Report 2019 on 14th January 2020. It has also been noted that the age group between 4-5 years, around 56.8% of girls enrolled in government schools as compared to only 50.4% of boys.

China operationalised the world's largest radio telescope

China operationalized the world's largest radio telescope- FAST in southwest China’s Guiyang city, the capital of Guizhou province. The FAST telescope is launched after three years of trial operation. The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) telescope is with a diameter of half-a-kilometre. This is dubbed as China Sky Eye.

The India Meteorological Department-IMD celebrated its 145th Foundation Day on 15th January 2020. It began in 1875, and since then it has marched forward with various milestones and paradigms to serve the society.
