Indian Monsoon forecast by IMD

Cabinet approves creation of one post of Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General in CAG

The Union Cabinet on 15 April approved creation of an additional post of Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (Coordination, Communication and Information System) in the office of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.

The Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General will oversee the coordination among state audits, audit of telecommunication and to coordinate the various information systems initiatives within the Indian Audit and Accounts Department.

India turns out to be Net Steel Importer in 2018-19 Fiscal

For the first time in three years, India was the net importer of steel during the financial year 2018-19. This was attributed to India losing market share among its traditional steel buyers and an increase in imports of higher-quality steel domestically.

Rongali Bihu festival celebrated in Assam

This year Rongali Bihu will be celebrated on April 14.

Derived from the word bishu, Bihu means 'to ask for prosperity from the Gods during the harvest season'.

Rongali Bihu, also known as Bohag Bihu, is the Assamese New Year wherein farmers thank the lord for the successful harvest and welcome the spring season.

WHO raises alarm over 300% increase in case of measles globally

World Health Organization (WHO) has raised alarm over a 300 percent increase in the case of measles globally in the first quarter of 2019 compared with last year. WHO said provisional data has indicated a clear trend, with all regions of the world seeing outbreaks. 

Measles, which is highly contagious, can be entirely prevented through a two-dose vaccine, but the World Health Organization (WHO) has in recent months sounded the alarm over slipping global vaccination rates.

It also added that Africa has witnessed the most dramatic rise - up 700% which has weaker vaccination coverage than other regions.

India’s 1st indigenously made long-range missile Nirbhay successfully test fired

Indian Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) conducted the sixth flight test of the nuclear-capable Nirbhay cruise missile.

It is India’s first indigenously designed and developed long-range cruise missile.

Cruising at 0.7 Mach at altitude as low as 100 meters, the test reportedly validated the missile’s sea-skimming capability.

India is likely to receive near-normal monsoon rains in 2019; according to Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) first long-range forecast for the south-west monsoon.
