Van Dhan Internship Programme

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched the Van Dhan Internship Programme on October 17, 2019. This Internship Programme is to help Tribals. The program will be organized by the TRIFED (Tribal cooperative marketing Development Federation of India). 

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP)

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is observed across the world every year on October 17th. The main aim is to raise awareness about the people who are struggling and living in poverty.

The theme for the year 2019 is “Acting together to empower children, their families and communities to end poverty”.

GOAL (Going Online As Leaders) program

The GOAL (Going Online As Leaders) program aims to guide, inspire and encourage tribal girls across India to become village level digital leaders for their community. This program was launched by Facebook to empower women by providing digital literacy, leadership, life skills and entrepreneurship skills. 

Kiran Uniyal has created Individual Guinness World Records

Kiran Uniyal, the wife of a serving Colonel of Indian Army, has created Individual Guinness World Records for the fullest contact knee strikes in 3 minutes (one leg) (female) with 263 strikes. She also surpassed the existing male category record of 226 knee strikes. 

Uniyal so far has achieved 15 World Records, including 10 Guinness World Records in Martial Arts, Fitness, and Social Work.

Global Hunger Index (GHI), 2019

India has slipped down to 102nd in Global Hunger Index (GHI) of 117 nations, below Pakistan (94th), Nepal (73rd) and Bangladesh (88th).

World Giving Index, 2019

India is ranked 82nd in the 2019 World Giving Index (WGI). The ranking was released by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), an international organization, which aims to promote in transform lives and communities across the world. USA topped the WGI 2019 list. It is followed by Myanmar, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, Canada, UK, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia.

48th Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IHGF)

The 48th Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IHGF) was organized by the Ministry of Textiles which began in Greater Noida on October 16, 2019. More than 3,200 Indian exhibitors are participating in the fair. Around 110 overseas buyers from 110 countries are participating in the event as well. They are here to source furniture, fashion, lifestyle and textiles products of the exhibitors.
