Samrakshane scheme

The state government of Karnataka is all set to protect the unlisted heritage monuments across the state under the ‘Samrakshane’ scheme, which is aimed to preserve important monuments and buildings which do not figure in the lists of the Archaeological Survey of India or the Karnataka archaeology department. There are more than 25,000 temples, mosques, churches, heritage buildings, and other monuments in the state which need attention.

RBI to sync its accounting year with govt's fiscal year from 2020-21

The Reserve Bank of India is to align its financial accounting year with that of the central government with effect from 2020-21. The board recommended aligning the financial year of the RBI, currently July-June, with the government’s fiscal year which is from April-March from the year 2020-21 and approved forwarding a proposal to the government for its consideration.

Kerala to have one more wildlife sanctuary

The State government of Kerala is set to declare the 148-sq-km buffer zone of the Silent Valley National Park as Bhavani wildlife sanctuary. Encompassing parts of the Mannarkkad and Nilambur (South) forest divisions, this region will become the 25th protected area in the State. 

Reserves of lithium found near Bengaluru

Researchers at the Atomic Minerals Directorate which is a unit of India’s Atomic Energy Commission, have estimated lithium reserves of 14,100 tonnes in a patch of land surveyed in Mandya, 100 km from Bengaluru.

Lithium is a rare metal which is critical for manufacturing batteries for electric vehicles. 

4th National Conference of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana

On 17th February 2020, the two-day long 4th National Conference on Review of Implementation of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) began in Udaipur (Rajasthan). The main aim of this conference is to understand the direction that the scheme is foraying into and individual roles thereof and to cross-learn from other institutions to resolve all the issues.

US has removed “Developing” Tag for India

On 10th February 2020, the U.S. removed more than a ten countries, including India, from its list of countries which are classified as “developing” for trade purposes. Now these lists of countries will be classified instead as “developed” economies, thus they will not be able to avail trade benefits.

Countries which are classified as “developing” are allowed to export few goods to the U.S. without being hit by punitory tariffs that are usually imposed on goods from the “developed” countries.

J&K, Ladakh to come under jurisdiction of CAT soon

The Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh will soon be covered by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT). The tribunal will have jurisdiction to handle disputes and other issues related to the UT services.
