First Earth-Size planet: HD 21749b discovered by NASAs TESS Exoplanet Mission

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (Nasa) latest planet-hunting probe TESS has discovered its first Earth-sized exoplanet.

The probe's newly discovered Earth-sized exoplanet is orbiting a star 53 light-years away.

The Transiting Exoplanets Survey Satellite (Tess) also discovered a warm sub-Neptune-sized world in the same system, according to a study published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.

FIFA ban former Brazilian football president Jose Maria Marin for life

Former Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) President Jose Maria Marin has been given a life ban from all football-related activities for corruption by international football governing body Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

The 86-year-old was also fined one million Swiss francs ($997,000) and ordered to forfeit $3.34 million.

TIME’s 100 most Influential People list released

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and public-interest litigators Arundhati Katju and Menaka Guruswamy, who spearheaded a historic legal battle for LGBTQ rights in India, are among the Indians who have been named by TIME magazine in its prestigious list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Raavana-1 launched into Space

Sri Lanka’s first research satellite RAAVANA-1 built by two Sri Lankan engineers was launched into space early this morning (April 18).

The satellite was carried to the International Space Station as cargo, aboard the Antares rocket, which carries the Cygnus cargo spacecraft.

Iran Parliament Labels US troops to Mideast as Terrorists

Iran’s parliament on 16 April 2019 overwhelmingly approved a bill labeling U.S. forces in the Middle East as terrorist, a day after the U.S. terrorism designation for Iran’s Revolutionary Guard formally took effect.

Defense Minister Gen. Amir Hatami introduced the bill authorizing the government to act firmly in response to “terrorist actions” by U.S. forces.

A major fire erupted at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on April 15, 2019 which claimed its spire and roof.

The exterior of the roof over the long main section believed to have been built in early 13th century, bore the maximum damage.
