Nepal launched its first satellite NepaliSat-1 from US

Nepal successfully launched its first satellite “NepaliSat-1” into space from Virginia in the United States. It is a low orbit satellite. It will be stationed at the International Space Station for a month and then it will be sent to orbit the earth. The satellite will take photographs on a regular basis to gather geographical information of the country.

Canara Bank became the first PSB to meet RBIs EMV Mandate

Canara Bank is the first public sector bank to shift to EMV chip and PIN for card present transactions across the country’s vast ATM network. The EMV shift, as in other major global markets, is aimed at reducing lost and stolen card fraud and making counterfeit card fraud more difficult.

Saudi Arabia to host G20 Summit in 2020

Saudi Arabia will be hosting the ‘G20 summit’ in November 2020 in its capital Riyadh. This would be the first G20 summit in the Arab world. Japan is all geared to host this year's summit in Osaka in June end.

World Press Freedom Index 2019

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has released its ‘World Press Freedom Index 2019'. Norway is ranked first in the 2019 Index for the third year running while Finland has taken second place from the Netherlands (down one at 4th). India has dropped two places on a global press freedom index to be ranked 140th out of 180 countries.

IMF and World Bank Launched Learning Coin For In-House Purposes

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) launched its token named “Learning coin” in association with the World Bank to gather more knowledge on the technology among its staff. Learning coin app, an application that allows its users to get access to more content related to Blockchain accompanied the token launch. It comprises a forum-like portal where the staff of the institutions could learn about blockchain.

India suspends LoC trade with Pakistan

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued orders to suspend all cross-LoC trade with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir with effect from April 19, 2019. The trade is allowed through two trade facilitation centres located at Salamabad, Uri, District Baramulla and Chakkan-da-Bagh, District Poonch.

“Varuna 2019”: India-France’s Joint naval exercise

Indian Navy and French Navy operating off their aircraft carriers will exercise together off Goa coast in May under the bilateral exercise ‘Varuna 2019’. There will be a major focus on carrier operations and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) training.
