STATE OF THE GLOBAL CLIMATE 2020 REPORT RELEASED

Recently, the World Meteorological Organisation released the “State of the Global Climate 2020” report. 2011-2020 was the hottest decade on record.

WORLD CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION DAY OBSERVED

Every year, on April 21, the World Creativity and Innovation Day (#WCID) is celebrated. It is celebrated to bring issues to light about the significance of creativity and innovation in problem-solving and support creative multidisciplinary thinking at the individual and group levels.

The World Creativity and Innovation Week is seen from April 15-21.

STEFANOS TSITSIPAS WON 2021 MONTE CARLO MASTERS

Stefanos Tsitsipas has won the 2021 Monte Carlo Masters to capture the maiden Masters 1000 title.

CIVIL SERVICES DAY OBSERVED

In India, the ‘Civil Services Day’ is observed on April 21 every year. It is observed as  thanks offering day to every one of the Civil Servants for their support of the general public and for Civil Servants to ‘rededicate themselves to the cause of citizens and renew their commitments to public service’.

WORLD PRESS FREEDOM INDEX 2021

India has ranked 142nd yet again out of 180 nations in the recently unveiled World Press Freedom Index. The index is published each year by the international journalism not-for-profit body, “Reporters Without Borders (RSF)”, to assess the press opportunity circumstance in 180 nations and regions.

Norway has held its top position for the fifth year running, trailing Finland and Denmark at second and third spot individually.

INDIA-GERMANY TO PREVENT PLASTIC WASTE ENTERING OCEANS

The Government of India (GOI) and Germany have signed an agreement for Technical Cooperation in improving practices to prevent plastic from entering the marine environment. The project titled ‘Cities Combating Plastic Entering the Marine Environment’ will be executed for 3 and a half years. It will be undertaken at the national level (at MoHUA), select states (Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Andaman & Nicobar Islands) and in the cities of Kanpur, Kochi and Port Blair.

NASA'S INGENUITY MARS HELICOPTER SUCCESSFULLY TOOK OFF

Recently, NASA's miniature robot helicopter Ingenuity performed a successful takeoff and landing on Mars. It is the first helicopter to fly on Mars. It was carried by NASA’s rover called Perseverance that was launched in July 2020.

Ingenuity is able to fly using counter-rotating blades that spin at about 2,400 rpm (Rotations Per Minute).
