International Mother Language Day

International Mother Language Day (IMLD) is observed on 21st February, and will be celebrated worldwide as an annual observance of UNESCO. The theme for the year is ‘Languages without borders’.

On 21st February 2020, India will observe and celebrate "International Mother Language Day" as Matribhasha Diwas across the country. The theme of the programme is ‘Celebrating our Multilingual Heritage’ which reflects the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.

World Wide Education for the Future Index

According to a report that was published by The Economist Intelligence Unit, India jumped five ranks (35th rank) in the Worldwide Educating for the Future Index 2019. This index ranks countries based on their abilities to equip students with skill-based education.

India’s score of 52.2 in teaching environment category and 50.1 in the socio-economic environment category increased significantly from 32.2 and 33.3 in the year 2018.

The Emerging Economies University Rankings 2020

Indian universities have a good performance year with emerging economies of the world since a record 11 made it to the top 100 Times Higher Education's-THE Emerging Economies University Rankings 2020. As per the ranking only China has more universities than India in the top 100 at 30.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) which is ranked 16th, is India's top-ranked institution followed by the Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs).

4 railway stations in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj get new names

Four Railway Stations in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj will now have new names, this move aimed at reviving the identity of the ancient city. 

Allahabad Junction will now be Prayagraj Junction, Allahabad Chheoki has been changed to Prayagraj Chheoki, Prayag Ghat has been changed to Prayagraj Sangam and Allahabad City will now be known as Prayagraj Rambag.

India ranks 77th on sustainability: UN report

According to a UN report, India has ranked 77th on sustainability index, which takes into account per capita carbon emissions and also the ability of children in a nation to live healthy lives. It secures 131st spot on a flourishing ranking which measures the best chance at survival and well-being for children.

Chinook helicopters are operationalised in high-altitude locations

Indian Air Force's Chinook helicopters have started getting operationalised in high-altitude locations which also includes the Siachen glacier area in the Ladakh sector and are ferrying military equipment to higher reaches. 

Chinook is a heavy lift, tandem rotor helicopter which serves armed forces of 19 countries. It is a multi-role functioning and is used for the transport of troops and material among other roles.
