ARUNACHAL PRADESH AND MIZORAM CELEBRATED THEIR STATEHOOD

Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram observed their statehood day on February 20, 2021. Both of the states received their statehood on 20 February 1987.

WORLD DAY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE WAS OBSERVED ON FEBRUARY 20TH

Every year, the United Nations’ (UN) World Day of Social Justice is observed on February 20 since 2009. This day recognizes the need to promote and tackle issues of social justice such as poverty, unemployment, exclusion, gender equality, human rights, and social protections.

2021 Theme: A Call for Social Justice in the Digital Economy.

WORLD PANGOLIN DAY OBSERVED

Every year, World Pangolin Day is observed on the “Third Saturday of February”. In 2021, the annual World Pangolin Day is being celebrated on 20 Feb 2020 and marks the 10th edition of the event. The day aims to raise awareness about pangolins and speed up conservation efforts.

INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY BEING CELEBRATED TODAY

International Mother Language Day is observed on February 21, every year to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.

The theme of the 2021 International Mother Language Day, “Fostering multilingualism for inclusion in education and society,” recognizes that languages and multilingualism can advance inclusion, and the Sustainable Development Goals’ focus on leaving no one behind.

25 CITIES SELECTED FOR THE NURTURING NEIGHBOURHOODS CHALLENGE

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has announced the names of the 25 cities selected for the Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge under the Smart Cities Mission. The cities that have been selected for the Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge cohort are Agartala, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Dharamshala, Erode, Hubballi-Dharwad, Hyderabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Kakinada, Kochi, Kohima, Kota, Nagpur, Rajkot, Ranchi, Rohtak, Rourkela, Salem, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruppur, Ujjain, Vadodara, and Warangal.

Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge is a 3-year initiative that aims to work with Indian cities and their partners to pilot and scale ways to improve public space, mobility, neighbourhood planning, access to early childhood services and amenities, and data management across city agencies.
