MARINE AIDS TO NAVIGATION BILL 2021

On 19th July 2021, the government introduced the Marine Aids to Navigation Bill 2021  in the Rajya Sabha. It aims to repeal the Lighthouse Act of 1927 to make way for shifting to modern aids from lighthouses for marine navigation. It was passed in the Lok Sabha in March.

CONSTITUTION (97TH AMENDMENT) ACT, 2011

The Supreme Court in a 2:1 majority verdict maintained the legitimacy of the 97th constitutional amendment that deals with issues related to management of cooperative societies but nullified a part related to their setting up and functioning.

97th Constitutional Amendment deals with issues related to management of cooperative societies in India. It was passed by parliament in December 2011 and came into effect from February 15, 2012.

PROJECT 75-INDIA - GOVERNMENT ISSUED A TENDER OF RS 50,000 CRORES

Under Project 75-India, the Government of India has issued a tender of Rs 50,000 crores to build 6 conventional diesel-electric submarines. These submarines will be larger than the Scorpène-class submarines which are being built at the Mazagon Dockyards Limited, Mumbai. The tender has been issued to Larsen and Toubro and Mazagon Dockyards Limited.

MAHARASHTRA - FIRST STATE TO ISSUE EDUCATIONAL DOCUMENTS USING BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY

Maharashtra will be the 1st state in the country to issue educational documents using blockchain technology. Around one million diploma certificates will be issued using this technology.

GOVERNMENT EXTENDS “STAND UP INDIA SCHEME” TO 2025

The Government of India has extended the duration of ‘Stand Up India Scheme’ up to the year 2025. On 05 April, 2016, it was launched by the Prime Minister to facilitate loans to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and women borrowers, to promote entrepreneurship among them.

MONSOON SESSION OF PARLIAMENT BEGINS

The monsoon session of Parliament has started.

According to Article 85 there should not be a gap of more than 6 months between 2 sessions of Parliament. That means the Parliament should meet at least twice a year.

AMLEX - FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND OXYGEN RATIONING DEVICE

To increase the life of medical oxygen cylinders threefold, the Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar has developed a first-of-its-kind Oxygen Rationing Device – AMLEX. It supplies a required volume of oxygen to the patient during inhalation and trips when the patient exhales CO2. This process saves oxygen which otherwise unnecessarily gets wasted.

BharatNet PROJECT

On behalf of Department of Telecommunication, Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) has invited global tender for the Development (Creation, Upgradation, Operation & Maintenance and Utilisation) of BharatNet through Public Private Partnership model in 9 separate packages across 16 states for a concession period of 30 years.

The existing BharatNet was connecting all the Gram Panchayats (GPs) by laying of OFC between Block and GPs. The scope of BharatNet has now been extended to connect all the Inhabited Villages of the country, approx. 6.43 lakhs (inclusive of GPs).
