Govt initiates Rs. 45k-cr programme for building 6 submarines under Project 75-I

Indian government on 20 June initiated the process for opening a second production line for advanced submarines for the Indian Navy under its signature “Make in India" programme.

According to a statement from the Indian Navy, as part of Project 75-I, leading international submarine manufacturers interested in the Rs. 45,000 crore project will need to work with an Indian Strategic Partner, which will construct six conventional submarines in India.

Earthquake in Maharashtra: 4.8 magnitude quake jolts Satara district

An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 shook parts of Satara district in Maharashtra on 20 June morning, an official said.

The epicentre of the quake, which occurred around 7.47 am, was recorded at a depth of 10 km, the official at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) centre of Maharashtra said.

Retail, FMCG to add 2.76 lakh new jobs in April-September FY20

Retail and fast moving consumer goods and durables (FMCG&D) sector together is likely to add 2.76 lakh new jobs in the first six months of the current financial year following the entry of foreign retail giants.

Under Bharatmala, 35000 km of highways to be built by 2022: President Kovind

Under the 'Bharatmala Project', construction or upgradation of about 35,000 kilometres of national highways is to be undertaken by 2022.

In addition, under the the 'Sagarmala Project', a network of good-quality roads is being constructed in coastal areas and areas adjoining ports.

Compulsory retirement for government officials

Fifteen senior Finance Ministry officials of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) have been sent into compulsory retirement, as a part of the action aimed at cleaning up the government service.

Orders issued by the Finance Ministry have quoted clause J of rule 56 of the Fundamental Rules.
