1ST INDIAN WOMAN TO SCALE MT ANNAPURNA

Priyanka Mohite has become the 1st Indian woman to scale Mt Annapurna, the 10th highest mountain in the world.

Mt Annapurna is a massif in the Himalayas in north-central Nepal situated 8,091 metres above sea level.

STATE OF THE GLOBAL CLIMATE 2020: WMO

Recently, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) released its annual State of the Global Climate for 2020. 2020 was one of the three warmest years on record, despite a cooling La Niña event. Emission of major greenhouse gases increased in 2019 and 2020.

GLOBAL YOUTH MOBILIZATION INITIATIVE

Recently, an initiative called the ‘Global Youth Mobilization’ has been launched for youths in communities impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. It is a movement of young people taking action to improve their lives now and in a post-Covid-19 world.

BOAO FORUM FOR ASIA (BFA) ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2021

The opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2021 was recently held in Boao, south China's Hainan Province. This year's theme is ‘A World in Change: Join Hands to Strengthen Global Governance and Advance Belt and Road Cooperation’.

INDIA ELECTED TO THE 3 BODIES OF THE UNITED NATION

India was recently elected to the 3 bodies of the United Nations. They were the Executive Board of the World Food Programme, Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and Executive Board of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women. All these 3 bodies work under the United Nations Economic and Social Council. India’s term to these bodies starts on January 1, 2022.

RESPOND PROGRAM ANNOUNCED BY ISRO

ndian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced that it will support eight joint research projects mooted by the Space Technology Cell (STC), IIT-Delhi.

ISRO started the RESPOND (Research Sponsored) programme in the 1970s, with the objective of encouraging academia to participate and contribute in various Space related research activities.

WORLD EARTH DAY OBSERVED

Every year, April 22 is celebrated as Earth Day to raise public awareness about the environment and inspire people to save and protect it. The theme of Earth Day 2021 is to 'Restore Our Earth'.
