DRDO SUCCESSFULLY FLIGHT TESTED SURFACE-TO-AIR MISSILE AKASH-NG

On July 21, 2021, Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight-tested the New Generation Akash Missile (Akash-NG), a surface-to-air Missile from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) off the coast of Odisha. Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO praised the efforts of the team and said the missile will strengthen the Indian Air Force.

SWISS ALPS ADD OVER 1,000 LAKES: STUDY

According to the study published by the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag) around 1,200 new lakes have formed in formerly glaciated regions of the Swiss Alps since the end of the Little Ice Age around 1850. The comprehensive inventory was made conceivable by enormous stores of information accumulated from Switzerland's glaciers since the mid-19th century.

The Alpine region of Switzerland generally referred to as the Swiss Alps, represents a major natural feature of the country and is, along with the Swiss Plateau and the Swiss portion of the Jura Mountains.

THREE MONUMENTS ADDED UNDER ADARSH SMARAK SCHEME

In Andhra Pradesh, 3 monuments have been identified under the Adarsh Smarak Scheme to give additional amenities and make them more tourist-friendly. These monuments will be provided with additional facilities like a cafeteria, Braille signages, Wi-Fi, an interpretation centre, illumination and others.

3 Monuments under the Adarsh Smarak Scheme:

  • Monuments at Nagarjunakonda in Guntur.
  • Buddhist remains at Salihundam in Srikakulam.
  • Veerabhadra temple (Lepakshi) in Anantapur.

GOVERNMENT HAS AMENDED IBBI REGULATIONS, 2016

Recently, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) has amended the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Insolvency Resolution Process for Corporate Persons) Regulations, 2016.

The amendment allows an Insolvency Professional (IP) conducting Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) to reveal all former names and registered office address(es) so changed in the 2 years after the beginning of insolvency along with the current name and registered office address of the Corporate Debtor (CD), in all its communications and records.

LIVERPOOL REMOVED FROM THE LIST OF UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITES

On 21st July 2021, Liverpool was removed from the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. In the 18th and 19th centuries, it was one of the world’s significant trading centres.

ICMR SERO SURVEY

The most recent serological survey conducted nationwide by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has tracked down that up to two-thirds of the country’s population who are over the age of six have effectively been infected with the Coronavirus. The 4th serosurvey was conducted in June and July after the 2nd wave had begun to subside. Around 28,975 people were tested for the presence of SARS-CoV2 virus antibodies and 67.6% gave a positive result.

POTENTIAL OF GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE WATER SECTOR IN INDIA

Recently, the Association of Geospatial Industries released a report titled “Potential of Geospatial Technologies for the Water Sector in India”. The report identifies opportunities in the Water sector that can be advantageous from the use of Geospatial technologies.

As per the reports plenty of Geospatial and Digital technologies, like Satellite-based Remote Sensing, GPS based equipment and sensors, Big Data Analytics, Internet of Things, GIS and Spatial Analytics, Surveying and Mapping, Artificial Intelligence, 5G, Robotics and Digital Twin, can be adequately used to combat the water crisis.

MONKEYPOX VIRUS

According to health officials, more than 200 people in 27 US states are being tracked for possible rare monkeypox infections. It is a rare disease that is caused by infection with the monkeypox virus.

Monkeypox begins with fever, muscle aches, headache, and exhaustion. The difference between symptoms of smallpox and monkeypox is that monkeypox causes lymph nodes to swell while smallpox does not.
