PARLIAMENT PASSES ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES AMENDMENT BILL

Parliament passed a Bill to remove cereals, pulses, oilseeds, edible oils, onion and potatoes from the list of essential commodities. As per the bill, it may regulate the supply of certain food items including cereals, pulses, potatoes, onions, edible oilseeds, and oils, only under extraordinary circumstances, which includes : (i) war, (ii) famine, (iii) extraordinary price rise and (iv) natural calamity of grave nature.

PARLIAMENT PASSES IIIT LAWS (AMENDMENT) BILL 2020

The Indian Institutes of Information Technology Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020 passed by the Parliament. It seeks to declare five Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) set up under the Public Private Partnership mode in Surat, Bhopal, Bhagalpur, Agartala, and Raichur as institutions of national importance.

PARLIAMENT PASSES BANKING REGULATION (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2020

Parliament has passed the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Bill 2020 through a voice note. It  regulates the functioning of banks and provides details on various aspects such as licensing, management, and operations of banks. It does not apply to certain co-operative societies such as primary agricultural credit societies and co-operative land mortgage banks.

INDIA IS HOME TO LARGEST NUMBER OF GREATER ONE-HORNED RHINOCEROS

As per the Union Environment Minister, India is home to the largest number of Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros in the world with a population in the range of 3000 animals in Assam, West Bengal and UP.

NO CONFIDENCE RESOLUTION AGAINST RAJYA SABHA DEPUTY CHAIRMAN

12 opposition parties of Rajya Sabha members moved a no-confidence resolution against Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman over the passage of two controversial farm Bills by the voice vote.

EXPLAINED : INDIA BASED NEUTRINO OBSERVATORY

The Government will set up India based Neutrino Observatory (INO) at Bodi West Hills, in Theni district, Tamil Nadu. It will observe neutrinos produced in the atmosphere of the Earth. It will be more about the properties of neutrino particles, whose main source is the Sun and the Earth's atmosphere. The neutrino detector will be a magnetized iron calorimeter, which will be the heaviest one made by any country.
