GOVT ALLOWS ALL OCI AND PIO CARD HOLDERS TO VISIT INDIA FOR ANY PURPOSE, EXCEPT ON TOURIST VISA

The government decided to permit all Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders and all other foreign nationals intending to visit India for any purpose, except on a Tourist Visa to enter by air or water routes through authorized airports and seaport immigration check posts.

NEW ORGAN SCIENTISTS HAVE DISCOVERED IN THE THROAT

Scientists at the Netherlands Cancer Institute have discovered a new organ in the upper part of the throat. The researchers have named the new glands as tubarial salivary glands because they believe that the glands probably lubricate and moisten the upper throat behind the nose and mouth. Until now, it was believed that this nasopharynx region hosted microscopic, diffuse, salivary glands, but, the new organ is about 1.5 inches (3.9 centimetres) in length on average.

EXPLAINED: WORLD OSTEOPOROSIS DAY

World Osteoporosis Day is observed annually on October 20th and launches a year-long campaign dedicated to raising global awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.

Osteoporosis causes bones to become weak and fragile so that they break easily – even as a result of a minor fall, a bump, a sneeze, or a sudden movement.

EXPLAINED: REGIONAL RAW DRUG REPOSITORY (RRDR)

National Medicinal Plant Board (NMPB), Ministry of AYUSH to setup region-based Regional Raw Drug Repositories (RRDRs) in respect of raw drugs used in the Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy (ASU&H) systems of medicine. The key objectives of establishing these repositories are to act as a collection centre of raw drugs available and used in each regionans act as an accredited reference library for authentication of raw drugs.

Great Indian Desert or the Thar Desert is the world’s 9th largest subtropical desert. Saltwater lakes within the Thar Desert include the Sambhar, Kuchaman, Didwana, and Phalodi in Rajasthan and Kharaghoda in Gujarat. This region receives very low rainfall below 150 mm per year.

October 23, 1917: The October Revolution commonly referred to as Red October, the October Uprising, or the Bolshevik Revolution was a seizure of state power instrumental in the larger Russian Revolution of 1917. It took place with an armed insurrection in Petrograd on October 25, 1917. The provisional government had been assembled by a group of leaders from Russia’s bourgeois capitalist class. Lenin instead called for a Soviet government that would be ruled directly by councils of soldiers, peasants and workers. The Red Army fought for the Lenin’s Bolshevik government.
