SUCCESSFUL MAIDEN LAUNCH OF MRSAM

Test of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) for the Indian Army has been conducted. Army Variant of MRSAM is a surface to air missile developed jointly by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), India and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Israel for use by the Indian Army.

FIREFLY FOR GREAT INDIAN BUSTARD

A unique initiative a “firefly bird diverter” for overhead power lines launched in areas where Great Indian Bustard (GIB) populations are found in the wild. It was launched by Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) along with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) India. Firefly bird diverters are flaps installed on power lines. They work as reflectors for bird species like the GIB.

‘CATCH THE RAIN’ AWARENESS GENERATION CAMPAIGN

National Water Mission(NWM), Ministry of Jal Shakti in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports launched the “JSA II: Catch the Rain” Awareness Generation Campaign. It aims to nudge all stake-holders to create Rain Water Harvesting Structures (RWHS) suitable for the climatic conditions and subsoil strata to store rainwater and to engage people at the grassroots for implementation of the campaign.

CHANGES IN THE POST MATRIC SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDENTS BELONGING TO SCHEDULED CASTES (PMS-SC)

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved changes in the Post Matric Scholarship to students belonging to Scheduled Castes (PMS-SC). Scheme allows students to pursue any post-matric course starting from class 11th and onwards, with the Govt meeting the cost of education. 

Starting from 2021-22, the Central share (60%) in the scheme would be released on DBT mode directly into the bank accounts of the students as per fixed time schedule, after ensuring that the concerned State Government has released their share.

INDIA ADDS TSO KAR WETLAND COMPLEX TO RAMSAR SITE

India has added Tso Kar wetland complex to the Ramsar Site. Tso Kar, the 42nd Wetland of International Importance, is at more than 4,500 metres above sea level in the Changthang region of Ladakh. The complex includes two connected lakes, the freshwater Startsapuk Tso and the larger hypersaline Tso Kar.

Ladakh is a region administered by India as a union territory, and constituting a part of the larger Kashmir region. It is bordered by the Tibet Autonomous Region to the east, the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh to the south. In August 2019, the Parliament of India passed an act by which Ladakh became a union territory on 31 October 2019.

Wholesale Price Index (WPI) measures the average change in the prices of commodities for bulk sale at the first stage of transactions. (i.e. Wholesale price). This helps in timely intervention by the Government to check inflation, particularly in essential commodities, before the price increase spills over to retail prices.
