Insight Mars lander detects likely Marsquake

NASA’s Mars Lander InSight has recorded its first ‘Marsquake.’

It has recorded a quake of 2 or 2.5 magnitude which is hard to predict on Earth’s surface.

Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize 2019

The second edition of Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize was awarded to author Rana Dasgupta for his 2010 novel "Solo", a tale of estrangement and the ultimate failure of material existence.

An amount of $10,000, a Tagore statue and a certificate for contribution to literature was given to Dasgupta.

The Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize for social achievement was awarded to Yohei Sasakawa, the World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination, for "his incredible efforts to uproot leprosy and great contribution to world peace".

World Immunization Week 2019

To promote the importance of vaccination and immunization, the world celebrates World Immunisation Week, initiated by the efforts of World Health Organisation.

The Immunisation Awareness Week 2019 will be celebrated this year between April 24 and April 30.

India to stop Importing Crude Oil from Iran

In the backdrop of the US refusal to extend the sanctions waiver for India to import crude from Iran, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has taken the necessary steps to fill the shortfall.

Even though India has urged the US to restore the sanction waivers it has decided to not to proceed with the purchase as the oil trade cannot happen in anticipation.

It has been stated that shortfall will be met through alternate supply sources available in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE and Mexico.

Asian Athletics Championship 2019: India finishes fourth with 17 medals

The 23rd edition of the Asian Athletics Championship concluded in Doha, Qatar on April 24, 2019. India with 17 medals (3 Gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze) finished fourth in the tournament.

The four-day event saw participation from 63 nations across the world.

Bahrain topped the tally with 11 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze, followed by China with 10 gold, 13 silver, 7 bronze and then Japan with 5 gold, 4 silver, 9 bronze.
