INDIA’S 39TH WORLD HERITAGE SITE - RAMAPPA TEMPLE

India has got Ramappa Temple as its 39th World Heritage Site. The decision was taken at the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO. Ramappa Temple also known as the Ramalingeswara temple is located 209 km from Hyderabad in the state of Telangana in southern India.

MAINTENANCE OF SECRECY OF VOTING IS “A MUST”: SUPREME COURT OF INDIA

Recently, the Supreme Court of India mentioned that in any election, be it to Parliament or State legislature, the maintenance of secrecy of voting is “a must”. It reiterated its 2013 judgement in the People's Union for Civil Liberties case.

WEB BASED PORTAL PMCARESFORCHILDREN.IN LAUNCHED

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched web-based portal pmcaresforchildren.in. It has been launched to facilitate the submission of applications, identification of children eligible to receive support under the 'PM CARES for Children' scheme. The module on Child registration and identification of beneficiaries has been put into functional use.

NIMHANS GUIDELINES ON MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES OF PRISONERS AND PRISON STAFF

Following up on the solicitation of the Ministry of Home Affairs, NIMHANS, an Institute of National Importance, issued a set of guidelines on the management of mental health issues of the prisoners and prison staff. Prisoners with mental issues must be routinely evaluated for seriousness of suicidal risk and also furthermore put on normal and directed medicine.

22ND ANNIVERSARY OF KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS

On 26th July 2021, the 22nd Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas is being celebrated across India.

The day signifies the victory of Indian armed forces in Operation Vijay in 1999 when they removed the infiltrators sponsored by Pakistani armed forces from high stations in the Kargil area. The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days and finished on 26 July 1999.

SUPREME COURT HAS DISMISSED PLEAS AGAINST BAN OF FIRECRACKERS

Recently, the Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed appeals challenging the National Green Tribunal's (NGT) order which had put a complete ban on the sale and use of all firecrackers during the Covid-19 pandemic in NCR and other cities in India. The order was given in the context of a poor Air Quality Index (AQI), due to the burning of crackers.

CHANDRA SHEKHAR AZAD

On 23rd July, India paid tribute to the freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad on his birth anniversary.

Chandra Shekhar Azad was born on 23rd July 1906 in the Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh. When he was a 15-year-old student, joined the Non-Cooperation Movement in December 1921. As a result, he was arrested.

SKILL GAP STUDY

A Skill Gap Study was done in 21 coastal districts to estimate the district-wise skilling requirements of the workforce, current skill training capacity and giving suggestions to address the skill gaps. Special focus was given on the Ports and Maritime Sector. Study distinguished gaps between total demand and supply of skilled manpower in sectors including logistics, tourism, construction and manufacturing.
