PHASE- II OF MAHATMA GANDHI NATIONAL FELLOWSHIP LAUNCHED

On 25th Oct 2021, the Minister of Education and Skills Development and Entrepreneur Shri Dharmendra Pradhan launched Phase II of the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship, a two-year partnership designed to open the door for young, resilient people to participate in skills development at the grassroots level.

The two-year partnership aims to integrate classroom sessions conducted by IIM education partners with an intensive field immersion at the district level to build credible programs and identify barriers to job creation, economic impact, and livelihoods in rural areas.

REVIEW OF AMENDED TECHNOLOGY UP-GRADATION FUND SCHEME (ATUFS)

Union Textile Minister Piyush Goyal has reviewed the Amended Technology Up-gradation Fund Scheme (ATUFS) Scheme to develop the Indian textile industry by facilitating trade, strengthening exports and promoting employment. ATUFS was approved for the period 2015-16 to 2021-22 with an allocation of Rs. 17,822 crore (Rs. 12,671 crore with a legal obligation for previous versions of TUFS & Rs. 5151 crores for new cases under ATUFS).

The Ministry of Textiles launched the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) in 1999 as a credit-linked subsidy scheme aimed at modern development and technology development in the Indian textile industry, promoting entrepreneurship, creating jobs and promoting exports. Since then, this program has been used in various versions.

GREEN DAY AHEAD MARKET (GDAM) LAUNCHED

Shri RK Singh, Union Minister of Power & New and Renewable Energy unveiled the new market segment, Green Day Ahead Market (GDAM). The introduction of the green day-ahead market will deepen the green market and will provide competitive price signals, without giving market participants the opportunity to trade in green energy, in a more transparent, flexible, competitive, and efficient way.

KERALA FARMER’S TECHNIQUE TO SAVE SENILE CASHEW GARDENS FROM PESTS AND CYCLONIC STORMS

A Kannur woman farmer in the state of Kerala has come up with a new practice of developing support roots for cashew trees to protect her senile cashew garden from the onslaught of destructive borer and constant cyclonic storms.

Mrs Aniyamma Baby from Kerala has developed an innovative Cashew Multiple Rooting Propagation Method. This method produces more roots in the mature cashew tree, thus improving the productivity of each area.

CHINA ADOPTS NEW LAND BORDER LAW

China passed a new law to strengthen land border protection amid the ongoing military tension along the disputed boundary with India, firming up the military-civilian role in defending the country’s borders. It authorizes the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China to oppose any “invasion, encroachment, infiltration, [or] provocation” across the land borders of China.

NATIONAL STEERING COMMITTEE (NSC) FOR NIPUN BHARAT MISSION

Recently, the Department of School Education and Literacy has set up a National Steering Committee (NSC) for the implementation of the NIPUN Bharat Mission. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Education Minister, will be the Chairperson of the NSC and Minister of State for Education, Smt. Annpurna Devi will be the Vice-Chairperson.

NIPUN stands for “National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy”. It was launched by the “Department of School Education and Literacy” in July 2021.

DIAMMONIUM PHOSPHATE (DAP): EXPLAINED

A severe shortage of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) in Haryana has seen farmers throw stones at police, block roads and protest, and even try to “loot” fertilizer at a private market in the Mahendragarh district south of Haryana.

Diammonium phosphate (DAP) is the world's most widely used phosphorus fertilizer. DAP can be used as a fire retardant or extinguisher. DAP is also used as a yeast nutrient in winemaking and mead-making.

WORLD POLIO DAY - OCTOBER 24
