Army Commanders' Conference to take place in two phases

The Army Commanders' Conference which was scheduled to take place in April 2020 and postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic will now be organised in two phases. The first phase of the conference is scheduled to take place from 27 May 2020 to 29 May 2020 in South Block and the second phase is scheduled to happen in the last week of June 2020. The Chief of the Army Staff will chair the Army Commanders' Conference.

Molecular shock absorbers protect axons from damage

Scientists working at the Raman Research Institute (RRI), an autonomous institute functioning under the Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with the IISER Pune and Paris Diderot University, have discovered that the flexible rod-shaped molecules present in axons called spectrin, act as ‘shock absorbers’ and protect axons from damage resulting from the stretch. The study by scientists will assist in understanding concussions and their treatment from head injuries and damage resulting from stretching of nerve injuries.

Indian Dispute Resolution Centre inaugurated by Justice A K Sikri

The Indian Dispute Resolution Centre (IDRC) was inaugurated by the former Supreme Court judge Justice A K Sikri. Justice Sikri  is also the International Judge, Singapore International Commercial Court. The head office of the Indian Dispute Resolution Centre (IDRC) located in Connaught Place, New Delhi with other offices located at strategically commercial places throughout the country.

New possibility to improve rice productivity discovered by Researchers

Rice is among the main staple foods across the globe, as it has a very high carbohydrate content and provides instant energy.

To develop superior rice varieties with heavier grains, which provide higher yield and better nutrition, researchers from ICAR-National Rice Research Institute (ICAR-NRRI), Cuttack; the Department of Biotechnology’s National Institute of Plant Genome Research (DBT-NIPGR), ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI) and University of Delhi South Campus (UDSC), have found a region in the genome of rice, which has the potential to improve productivity.

PFC signs pact with NBPCL to fund hydro-electric projects

The Power Finance Corporation (PFC), which is a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) and the leading Non-Banking Finance Company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Narmada Basin Projects Company Ltd. (NBPCL), a company owned by the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Under the MoU, NBPCL will utilize the funds to establish hydroelectric projects of 225 MW and power components of 12 major multipurpose projects in Madhya Pradesh.

Aarogya Setu app made open source

The source code of Aarogya Setu has now been made open source. The Aarogya Setu mobile App was launched on 2 April 2020 in India for providing assistance in improving the efforts to contain the spread of COVID19. The app is based on Bluetooth enabled contact tracing, and helps in mapping likely hotspots and imparts relevant information concerning COVID19. With more than 114 million users as on 26 May, the app is the most downloaded Contact Tracing App in the world.

CSIR-IIIM and RIL sign MoU to develop RT-LAMP based test for Coronavirus

CSIR-IIIM, Jammu has collaborated with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to develop and scale-up a new Reverse Transcriptase-Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification (RT-LAMP) based COVID-19 diagnostic kit.

The RT-LAMP test for COVID-19 is a test based on nucleic acid and is carried out from swab samples of the throat or nose from patients. The test is a rapid (45-60 min), low cost and accurate test.

Nine authorized laboratories testing and certifying Proto-type PPE Coveralls

India is manufacturing the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Coveralls keeping in view the importance of safety and well being of the health professionals. According to the technical specifications given by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Nine (9) authorized laboratories are testing and certifying the proto-type test samples of PPE Coveralls. To provide complete protection to the user PPE is designed to be resistant to the passage of any fluid or aerosol particle.
