DRDO FLAGS OFF FIRST ‘VARUNASTRA’ HEAVYWEIGHT TORPEDO

The Defence Research and Development (DRDO) Chairman G Satheesh Reddy has flagged off the first Production unit of Heavy Weight Torpedo (HWT), Varunastra. Varunastra is a ship-launched, heavyweight, electrically propelled anti-submarine torpedo.

NATIONAL PORTAL FOR TRANSGENDER PERSONS

The government launched a portal through which transgender persons can apply for gender identity certificates online. It has been developed within two months of the notification of Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020 on September 29, 2020.

CONSERVATION EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR 2020

The Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR - Uttar Pradesh) received international award TX2 for doubling the number of tigers in the past four years. Transboundary Manas Conservation Area or TraMCA (India-Bhutan border) has received the Conservation Excellence Award for 2020.

TX2 or Tigers Times Two stands for a goal which was to double the population of wild tigers by 2020.

PRESIDENT’S POWERS TO PARDON

Recently, President of the United States of America (USA) has exercised his powers under the constitution to pardon his former National Security Advisor. The President of the US has the constitutional right to pardon or commute sentences related to federal crimes.

IPPB LAUNCHES PM JEEVAN JYOTI BIMA YOJANA

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) has joined hands with PNB MetLife India Insurance Company Limited to launch Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. It will provide protection and financial security to the poor and underprivileged, especially in unbanked and remote areas of India, in the unforeseen and unfortunate event of the loss of a family member.

On 27 November 1001, Sultan Mehmud of Ghazni began his first real expedition to India by defeating the Hindu King Jaipal. He won Afghanisthan and Punjab in Peshawar battle. This was the first major Muslim conquest in India.

It is believed to have originated in a seafood market in Wuhan that was involved in the illegal sale of wildlife.
