FIRST DIRECT FLIGHT INAUGURATED BETWEEN SHILLONG-DIBRUGARH

On October 26, 2021, Union Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, inaugurated the 1st direct flight on Shillong–Dibrugarh sector. It was operated under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN).

NATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE FUND LAUNCHED

On October 25, 2021, Saudi Arabia launched a “National Infrastructure Fund” to invest 200 billion Riyals in projects over the next ten years. The National Infrastructure Fund was established with the aim of contributing to the development of the financial sector by finding alternative solutions to finance infrastructure projects.

MULLAPERIYAR DAM

The Supreme Court has directed the Supervisory Committee to take a swift and decisive decision regarding the maximum water level that can be maintained at the Mullaperiyar dam, amid heavy rains in Kerala.

Mullaperiyar Dam is a masonry gravity dam on the Periyar River in Kerala. It is located 881 m (2,890 ft) above mean sea level, on the Cardamom Hills of the Western Ghats in Thekkady, Idukki District of Kerala.

BHARTI AIRTEL OPTED FOR 4-YEAR MORATORIUM ON PAYMENT OF AGR

Bharti Airtel has decided to opt for a four-year moratorium on adjusted gross revenue (AGR) and spectrum payments, making it the second telco after Vodafone Idea to accept the offer, which was part of a recently announced telecommunications package.

Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) is the usage and licensing fee charged by telecommunications operators at the Department of Communications (DoT).

AFGHANISTAN’S FOOD CRISIS: WFP

Millions of Afghan people will face starvation this winter unless urgent action is taken, the UN World Food Program (WFP) has warned. More than half of the population - an estimated 22.8 million - suffer from malnutrition, and 3.2 million children under the age of five could be malnourished, WFP said.

FIRST INDIA-KYRGYZSTAN STRATEGIC DIALOGUE

The 1st India-Kyrgyzstan Strategic Dialogue between the National Security Council Secretariats was held in New Delhi on 26th Oct 2021. The Indian side was led by Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor and the Kyrgyz side was led by Secretary of Security Council of Kyrgyzstan Lieutenant General Marat Imankulov.

Kyrgyzstan is a mountainous country located in Central Asia.

WORLD METEOROLOGICAL ORGANIZATION (WMO)’s REPORT ON GREENHOUSE GASES

Emerging greenhouse gases also set a new record last year, with an annual increase in the 2011-2020 average. The practice continued in 2021, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Greenhouse Gas Bulletin.

The concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2), the most important greenhouse gas, reached 413.2 million units by 2020 and is 149% pre-industrial level.

OPERATION RED ROSE

Operation Red Rose belongs to Punjab. Now, after a year-and-a-half later, through the use of specific tracking and surveillance systems under Operation Red Rose to detect illegal screening and trafficking of alcohol, the results in terms of the number of suspects booked for a crime, convictions and rise in revenues are encouraging.

In 2020, Punjab’s Excise Department launched Operation Red Rose to stop the sale of illegal alcohol and nail excise-related crimes.
