QUARANTINE’ NAMED CAMBRIDGE DICTIONARY’S WORD OF THE YEAR 2020

"Quarantine" has been named the 2020 Word of the Year by Cambridge Dictionary.

INDIA’S GDP CONTRACTS 7.5% IN SEPTEMBER QUARTER

India's Gross Democratic Product (GDP) contracted 7.5 per cent in the quarter ending September as compared to the same period last year.

GDP is the final value of the goods and services produced within the geographic boundaries of a country during a specified period of time, normally a year. GDP growth rate is an important indicator of the economic performance of a country.

EXPLAINED: CYCLONE NIVAR

Cyclone Nivar, the very severe cyclonic storm, crossed the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast near Puducherry. Nivar originated from a disturbance in the Intertropical Convergence Zone.

INDIA TO HOST ITS MAIDEN SCO HEADS OF GOVERNMENT SUMMIT

India will host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government. This year, the summit will end with the adoption of the joint statement under the chairmanship of India.

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), or Shanghai Pact is a Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance. Its creation was announced on 15 June 2001 in Shanghai, China by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

On November 29, 1993, JRD passed away in a Geneva hospital.
