Stealth frigate INS Nilgiri launched for sea trials in Mumbai

Stealth frigate INS-Nilgiri, first ship of the P-17A frigates, was launched at the dockyard of the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai. It is indigenously developed by the Indian Navy’s Directorate of Naval Design, Delhi. These P17A frigates have equipped with new concepts like improved survivability, sea keeping, stealth and ship manoeuvrability.

 

Telugu poet K. Siva Reddy bags Saraswati Samman of KK Birla

K Siva Reddy has bagged the prestigious Saraswati Samman, 2018, for his collection of

poems titled Pakkaki Ottigilite. He is a Telugu poet who was born in 1943 in a family of farmers in Andhra Pradesh. The Saraswati Samman is an annual award for people who have done outstanding work in poetry and prose in any of the 22 languages listed in the Schedule VIII of the Constitution of India.

NASA releases images claiming Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram's hard landing

NASA has released some high-resolution pictures of lander Vikram’s landing site. NASA claimed on the basis of these pictures that Chandrayaan-2 lander ‘Vikram’ had a hard landing on the lunar surface. These pictures have been clicked by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC).

Pleas related to abrogation of Article 370: SC sets up a 5-judge constitution bench

The Supreme Court of India has set-up a 5-judge constitutional bench that’s being headed by Justice N.V. Ramana to hear pleas on the abrogation of Article 370. The 5-judge constitutional bench is set to commence its hearing from the month of October 2019 to examine the constitutional validity of the scrapping of the provisions of Article 370 that gave special status to the state of Jammu & Kashmir and the subsequent presidential orders about it.

 

Nepal launches three commemorative coins, on 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak

To commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the Nepal government launched three coins in denominations of Nepali rupees 2500, 1000 and 100. Commemorative coins were launched by Nepal Rashtra Bank governor Chiranjivi Nepal and Indian ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri.
