The annual flower festival of Telangana is here

The state of Telangana is holding its annual flower festival Bathukamma from 29th September to 6th October in Warangal district. The women of the state have gathered in large numbers to celebrate this nine-day event. Bathukamma in Telugu translates to “when Mother Goddess comes alive” and there are various tales revolving around the origin of the festival. The women worship Goddess Parvati on this auspicious occasion.It is an integral part of Telugu Culture.

Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference being held in Kampala, Uganda

The annual meeting of the 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) was held in Kampala, Uganda from September 22 to 29 and was hosted by the Parliament of Uganda. This year's theme for the conference is ‘Adaption, engagement and evolution of parliaments in a rapidly changing Commonwealth.’

Deepak Punia ranked as the world's best wrestler in the 86kg category

The International Wrestling Federation has ranked Deepak Punia as the world's best wrestler in the 86kg category. He was the fifth Indian to reach the finals at the senior World Championship.

Ban on E-cigarette

The Central government has banned the commercial production and import of E-cigarettes from the 18th of September. The government said that it wanted to prevent this new form of intoxication from destroying the youth of this country. Electronic cigarettes are battery-operated cigarettes that give out aerosol when one takes a puff. The aerosol may or may not contain nicotine and can also be flavored.

Former Foreign Secretary K P S Menon (junior) passes away at the age of 90

Former diplomat K P S Menon passed away at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram due to age-related ailments. Son of K P S Menon (senior), the 1st Foreign Secretary of independent India and uncle of former Foreign Secretary and National Security Adviser Shivasankar Menon.

World Rabies Day on September 28 on death anniversary of Louis Pasteur

Government announces Block-Level Elections for Jammu & Kashmir

Jammu & Kashmir has been in a state of unrest since Article 370 was scrapped. To bring order in the state, the government has announced elections for the block development council across J&K. The elections are to be conducted on October 24. In the first phase, the election will be held for 26,629 seats of panchs and sarpanches, and 310 posts of chairpersons.
