INDIA-DENMARK GREEN STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

India and Denmark signed Green Strategic Partnership. Green Strategic Partnership is a mutually beneficial arrangement to advance political cooperation, expand economic relations and green growth, create jobs and strengthen cooperation on addressing global challenges and opportunities; with focus on an ambitious implementation of the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

CORONAVIRUS | INDIA STILL FAR FROM HERD IMMUNITY

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan cautioned that the Indian Council of Medical Research’s (ICMR) COVID-19 first sero-survey should not be treated as India has achieved herd immunity from COVID-19.

Herd immunity is a stage of an epidemic in which some members of a population group remain protected from infection because a majority of those around them have already developed immunity, either through vaccination or because they have been infected earlier.

WORLD HEART DAY BEING OBSERVED TODAY

World Heart Day is celebrated on 29 September. World Health Day was first founded in 1999 with the World Heart Federation (WHF) collaborating with the World Health Organisation (WHO). World Heart Day was observed on the last Sunday of September, with the first celebration taking place on September 24, 2000.

CENTENARY OF DISCOVERY OF HARAPPAN CIVILIZATION

To mark the centenary of the discovery of the Harappan civilization at Mohenjo-Daro, the India Study Centre Trust in collaboration with the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, Maharashtra, will organise a 10-day online lecture series from 5th October 2020.

The Harappan civilisation was the first urban civilisation in South Asia, contemporaneous with the civilisations of Mesopotamia and Egypt . Of the three aforementioned civilisations, the Harappan civilisation occupied most area (about 8,00,000 sq km).

EXPLAINED-MONSOON RETREAT

The withdrawal of the south-west monsoon and the onset of north-east monsoon are both gradual phenomena. They take place almost at the same time and tend to merge which explains the popularity of the phrase “Retreating Monsoon”.

Retreats start from the western Rajasthan by the first week of September. It withdraws from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Western Ganga plain and the Central Highlands by the end of the month.

PD VAGHELA APPOINTED AS NEW TRAI CHAIRMAN

Dr P. D. Vaghela has been appointed as the Chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India- TRAI.

TRAI is a statutory body set up by the Government of India under section 3 of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, 1997. It is the regulator of the telecommunications sector in India.

EXPLAINED : DEFENCE ACQUISITION PROCEDURE – 2020

Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) (erstwhile Defence Procurement Procedure or DPP), 2020 was released by the Ministry of Defence (MoD). The categories of Buy(Indian-IDDM), Make I, Make II, Production Agency in Design & Development, OFB/DPSU and SP model will be exclusively reserved for Indian Vendors meeting the criteria of Ownership and Control by resident Indian Citizens with FDI not more than 49%.

Cat Que virus is a type of virus which can infect both animals (such as mosquitoes, pigs) as well as humans. Its symptoms are high fever, meningitis, paediatric encephalitis and is routinely seen in swine in districts of China and Vietnam. It is a type of virus transmitted through arthropod vectors, also referred to as arbovirus.

Maharashtra government banned the sale of loose cigarettes and beedis, in a bid to reduce the consumption of tobacco and to comply with the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003.

HARIJAN SEVAK SANGH CELEBRATES ITS FOUNDATION DAY

On 30 September, Gandhi founded All India Anti Untouchability League, to remove untouchability in the society, which later renamed as Harijan Sevak Sangh ("Servants of Untouchables Society"). It is headquartered at Kingsway Camp in Delhi.

RBI TO EXTEND ENHANCED BORROWING LIMIT FOR BANKS TILL MARCH 31

The Reserve Bank of India to extend the enhanced borrowing facility provided to banks to meet the shortage of liquidity by six months. RBI increased the borrow limit for scheduled banks under the marginal standing facility (MSF) scheme from 2% to 3% of their net demand and time liabilities (NDTL) with effect from March 27, 2020. It aims to provide comfort to banks on their liquidity requirements.

BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF SHAHEED BHAGAT SINGH

Bhagat Singh was born on September 28, 1907 in Punjab province, now in Pakistan. In April 1929, Bhagat Singh and an associate bombed the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi to protest implementation of the Public Safety Bill.

EXPLAINED : CRIMEAN-CONGO HAEMORRHAGIC FEVER

The Palghar administration was on alert against a possible spread of the Congo fever in the Maharashtra district. It is a viral haemorrhagic fever usually transmitted by ticks. It can also be contracted through contact with viraemic animal tissues (animal tissue where the virus has entered the bloodstream) during and immediately post-slaughter of animals.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL HALTS INDIA OPERATIONS

Amnesty International India has halted its human rights operations in India due to the freezing of its bank accounts by the Government of India. Amnesty International argued that the Government has frozen all his accounts due to issues with respect to transparency and human rights violations in the country.
