Defence Acquisition Council

Defence Acquisition Council

Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh chaired the Defence Acquisition Council on October 21, 2019. The aim of this council is to make sure that the expeditious procurement meets the requirements of the armed forces.

Key Points:

  • The Council has approved a capital procurement for indigenously designed and developed equipment for the Defence forces and also approved three projects which are to be indigenously designed, developed and manufactured. This would be a part of Make in India initiative.
  • The initial two projects include ATGM i.e., Anti-Tank Guided Missile and APU i.e., Auxiliary Power Units. These 2 projects are to be progressed under Make II category. This would boost the private sectors.
  • The 3rd generation ATGM will provide “Fire and Forget” and “Top Attack” capabilities to the Indian forces in the battlefield. The 3rd project remains to discrete Electronic Warfare (EW) systems. This project would be beneficial in operating mountains and high-altitude terrain, which are to be designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation.
