DELHI GOVERNMENT LAUNCHED ITS ELECTRIC VEHICLE POLICY.

Context

The Delhi government has launched its Electric Vehicle Policy.

Details

  • It aims to boost Delhi's economy and also it will reduce pollution levels
  • It will also generate employment in the transport sector.
  • Under this policy, Delhi Government aims to ensure 25% of the newly registered vehicles across the city by the year 2024 as electric vehicles.
  • It also includes incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles.
  • Rs. ₹30,000 subsidy will be provided on the purchase of two-wheelers, autorickshaws, e-rickshaws, freight vehicles, each, and  ₹1.5 lakh on cars.
  • These subsidies will be in addition to the incentives under the Central government’s ‘FAME India’ Phase 2.
  • Under this policy scrapping incentives will be provided which will be the first in  the country.
  • It is designed for three years.

About FAME Scheme

  • The National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020 is a National Mission document which provides a vision and roadmap for the faster adoption of electric vehicles and their manufacturing in the country.
  • Under this, the Department of Heavy Industry in the year 2015 formulated a Scheme called,  Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme to promote electric and hybrid vehicle technology and to ensure sustainable growth of the same.
