DEPARTMENT OF FOOD AND PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION DEVELOPS AN APPLICATION ECOSYSTEM

Context:

The Department of Food and Distribution has developed an ecosystem, which allows for the integration of procurement of all national governments with Minimum Threshold Parameters (MTPs) for monitoring and strategic planning in view of the benefit of farmers along with keeping traders and middlemen at bay.

Significance of the Integration:

• Integration with the central portal will go a long way in accelerating the reconciliation of procurement figures with States and the release of funds by the Centre Government to the States.

The benefits will be available to the general public, but the specific benefits considered by participants are as follows:

Farmers: They will be able to sell their produce at reasonable prices and avoid tragic sales.

Procuring Agencies: With better procurement control, State agencies and FCI will be able to procure efficiently with limited resources.

Other Stakeholders: Automation and policymaking in procurement activities should provide an integrated view of the purchase of food grains and their storage in godowns.

MTPs to be held at all procurement sites to ensure consistency and co-operation between them are as follows:

Background:

• This process began with the commencement of KMS 2021-22 in October 2021.
• The introduction of Minimum Threshold Parameters (MTPs) into procurement activities is necessary to avoid middlemen in procurement.
