Odisha sprinter Dutee Chand won the Vogue award for Sportsperson for the Year 2019.

Key Points:

  • She holds the national record in women’s 100m and has brought many trophies to the country and state. 
  • In the month of October, she clocked 11.22 seconds in the semi-final of women’s 100m event at the 59th National Open Athletics Championships 2019 in Ranchi. With this score, she broke her own previous national record of 11.26 seconds.
  •  Dutee Chand aims to win the gold medal for India in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
  • Besides winning the prestigious honour, Dutee will also feature on the cover of Vogue India’s November 2019 edition.
  • Besides Dutee, the only other sportsperson on Vogue’s honours list is Indian shooter Heena Sidhu for young achiever of the year.
