Rolls-Royce will build engines for World’s fastest aircraft-Overture.

Details

  • It is working with Boom Supersonic to develop a propulsion system for the world’s fastest civil aircraft Overture.
  • World’s fastest civil aircraft will take its first flight in 2021.
  • The collaboration will involve engine airframe matching activities to fly Overture.
  • It will also investigate whether an existing engine architecture can be adapted for the supersonic passenger aircraft.
  • Both companies recognize that supersonic passenger travel has to be compatible with a net-zero carbon future.

About Boom Overture

  • It is a Mach 2.2, 55-passenger supersonic transport with 8,300 km of range, which is proposed to be introduced in 2025–2027 by Boom Technology.
  • It would be built with composite materials.
